Ha, Ernie Adams. Fucking guy even left quietly. Anyhoo, it is a challenge to be face to face with the lovely bride (especially if she is retired as well). You cant miss someone if they wont go away. I hit the gym, try to walk an hour a day (that's 2 1/2 hours of me time right there). Also learned to play the bagpipes, which enables me to travel and retain a bond with a bunch of similarly inclined dickheads and get out and have a beer. Going out to meet some dickheads later to celebrate one of their retirements. I also do alot of stuff like laundry/shopping and other chores to take the load of the wifne who is now working from home (THANKS COVID ) Been trying to hit the driving range so I can retain some sort of dignity when I play with my sopne who has become a golf addict and pretty damn good (the fucker) Believe it or not, the day goes quick. I would def. emphasize the physical exercise aspect of it as it is easy to get into a funk and decline physically. Your body is used to 'working" after all these years and your health can really go into a tailspin unless you keep busy. Hope that helps. Congrats? My wife won't LET me shop for groceries because I'll do it "wrong." LOLz I def. understand the exercise aspect. I basically sat in a chair for 35 years of work. If I don't exercise every day I start to freeze up. I guess I'm finding it hard to "shut off" the mindset I had working. I was passionate about my work as much as I hated it at times. Hard to change after doing something so long. Definitely gonna take an adjustment. People suggest volunteering, problem is I hate people. Volunteer at an animal shelter? Less people to deal with. But some.

I will learn how to play the banjo. I have no musical ability at all so hoping my shitty playing wont be noticeable.
Dahpne just left for college a couple weeks ago so we're empty nesters. Wifne drug me to some estate sales last weekend which was painful but interesting at the same time. Didn't buy anything but pictured what these peoples lives were like. Caused me to reflect a bit. Then I see clothes they're selling still hung in the closet..some the same as what is hanging in my closet. So, Im like..fuck!

Wifene and I have just under 5 years left. We are 58. We will be completely debt free, never had more than a house and one car payment. Between pensions and investments we should be good. We have begun to discuss/look at what we will do once we retire. We would like to do something together if possible. Unless Theta blows up in the next 2-3 years. Then I am out early.

My company will be requiring the Covid jab in early October. If we don't comply we will be fired. No severance but I could collect unemployment for the first time in my life and take a shot a the many side businesses I have been putting off. I am 51 so not old but not young. I do have some FU money but it is hard to walk away from the salary and benefits I get. Early "retirement" where I work for myself on my time could be nice though.
Some side projects I have considered are:
Flipping houses Selling wood working projects Selling wood working plans online Selling CNC/Laser Cutting files online Selling my custom programs and scripts I have developed over the years
If I hustle I could probably make ends meet with these in a year or 2.

Could you do some sort of custom woodworking? Like where you would put peoples names on them? People love that stuff for weddings, etc. You could have a booth at local farmer's market type places.
