OI went to the site. I see a wide price range. Is there really that much difference between a 829.00 AR and a 2200.00 AR? I see a scope on the one but other than that they look pretty much the damn same. Not a huge gun guy. I do have a couple of 9mm to carry and a pistol grip pump action shotgun in the house. I want a long barrel. I am not even certain which rifle is the right one to buy. I have had conversations around the AR and a 7 and 1 3006. The prices differ so dramatically because of all the upgrades on the higher priced rifles. Lets say you buy a $800 AR and then you want to change the foreguard because the one that came with it is a piece of shit. Well now you just added another $200 to the price. Then you don't like the trigger so you upgrade that for another $200, and on and on. That's why I like the Springfield Armory Saint Victor line because the entire rifle is upgraded and they're selling for $950 on gunbroker.com. For just spending a couple hundred more you get a full length free floated m-lock foreguard which is lightweight and allows you to attach anything. The barrel, bolt, and bolt carrier group are melonite coated, it comes with a bravo company grip and stock, and best of all is the nickel boron trigger which is fucking sweet. Even if you were able to do all of those upgrades(you can't) on a cheap rifle you just pushed the price to over $1500 or more. If you want a larger caliber than 5.56 you can get that same rifle chambered in .308 which is comparable to 30/06. The difference is if you stay with the AR platform the modifications are unlimited, they are lighter, and are semi auto. 99% of 30/06 are bolt action and really not suitable or practical for home defense. Good info. Thanks.

That is exactly what I have. Just looking for a longer range rifle. I might not want to get too close to my assailant / target.

A few years ago I got one of those $600 Smith&wesson AR15s. Mainly I just wanted one before Obama outlawed them. Took it to the range a couple times. Really fun to shoot.

Just by there design with a buffer tube they are a pleasure too shoot unlike large caliber bolt actions. With a bolt action you're taking the brunt of the recoil whereas with a semi auto it's absorbed by the design of the rifle. I can shoot 400-500 rounds of 5.56/.223 and my shoulder feels great...now drop about 10-12 rounds of 30-06 and you get the point.

They really are a ton of fun to shoot....just gotta let them cool down a bit after you run about 120 rounds, or just wear a glove or mount the right foregrip.

IIRC It took my cousin about 4-5 months and this was about a year ago. Then the dumb polack buys a derringer chambered in .357 magnum. I couldn't even get on paper at 10 yards, ripped my thumb up after the first shot and it had what felt like a 100lb. trigger.....just brutal too shoot. After 12 rounds I tapped out and so no mas. I got a Barretta Px4 Storm 9mm. It is on the heavy side. I like my girlfriends Smith and Wesson better. Likely my next pistol, love everything I read about it and it will be a nice complement to my 92. As for a long gun, I'm in NYC still, so I am limited to a 5 round .223 style. Sucks, but I'm stuck. I have a 12g for when shit gets closer, though.
