Women voting became an amendment. Its amazing the foresight our founders had. All the remedies are there in the document. To cut to the chase, the reason we have the situation we have is bc lawmakers, mainly Democrats, grew comfortable with the judiciary doing their job for them for the past 50 years. This Roe overturn is the first time in my life I have seen one of the three branches relinquish power. They dont agree with the outcome but from a constitutional standpoint this is increasing democracy and strengthening checks and balances. They need to do their jobs and put their names on bills now. Stop abdicating their role to the judiciary. But this means putting their names on something that includes abortion up until birth bc that is what their coastal liberal elite handlers demand. So that is what the real whining is about. I know I can google this but I'm feeling a bit Big L..I understand the initial Roe vs Wade decision became a sort of juridprudence which gave a sort of "right" to abort. What the SC just decided is that it's not up to them to decide what becomes a right or not. It shoud be an ammendment. Correct? Edit, therefore sending it back to the states From the current SCOTUS opinion, abortion should be left up to the states since it is not part of the Constitution. To become part of the Constitution it would have to go through the amendment process. Now this is a legal debate. You have people who believe it is part of the Constitution and covered under the 14th Amendment even though abortion is not explicitly mentioned. That was the old SCOTUS opinion. And that is the inherent issue with case law and precedents. Opinions change. Live by the bench, die by the bench. Under the current SCOTUS I believe any federal attempt of "codifying" Roe will be struck down bc they simply do not believe it is within the purview of the federal government. The only federal remedy imo is an amendment.

Its funny bc I remember for years the number being around 20 weeks. So the country has gotten more "conservative" on abortion. I've had a lot of these conversations the past month. When people tell me they are are "pro-choice" I ask them if that means they support abortion up until birth. Nobody has answered yes to that question. Almost all say first trimester. Going to be interesting when mainstream Dems call for unlimited abortions and that will be the only definition of pro-choice. Its coming. And every pro-life politician should get them to say it in debates. On the record. In a normal world this would be a fair and honest media's job.
