went to the vet today, my sweet pup has terminal cancer. "alimentary lymphoma" wtf pit rescue, 10 great years, time flew got a few months tops wifne and sopnes not taking it well. gonna be rough when we gotta make the decision, so i'm gonna make it myself when the time comes so the guilt can be on me. anyways Yeah I doubt the efficacy of this. Give the fam a chance to say goodbye. My MIL dropped my dying Jack Russell off w vet; vet said she could save the dog's life for $3000 She just bolted - I was furious not to say goodbye yeah, to clarify, i'm not just gonna take him by myself one day without telling them i'm saying that i will make the decision when the time comes looking into someone that can come to the house and do it instead of being in some sterile flourescent room with a bunch of strangers in the building. i have an acre and a half of woods that he liked to explore, me and the boys will find the right spot, dig the hole, and make a memorial marker

She would shake and not get out of the car. When my wife took her there at the end, they said it is time. Wifne refused to put her down there. She brings Roxy home and the vet shows up at 1600 and put her down in her bed in the living room. Cost more but was so much better for her and us.

I’ve had 4 dogs as an adult, including the one I have currently.
One was killed while I was away & one was on the operating table when the vet told me that the cancer was too far along to save her so I had her put to sleep. (The dog, not the vet.)
Those were the worst to get over.
The third one was riddled with cancer & we had a couple of day to process the end. We made the last night special. I cooked a steak just for her & we all sat around that night giving her a ton of affection. I brought her down to the vet the next morning. That absolutely sucked.
But I think that time for the family to say goodbye really helped a lot.

Crossfire makes a good point. We should look up some dying veterinarians and offer services.

Kinda reminiscent of the hallucinations during my odyssey to hampurgatory.

Thankfully my vet offered this service but if yours doesnt you can definitely find some on teh googles.

Thats about what I paid for mine. The private cremation is always more. At-home is 1000x better than taking them into the vet for it. My guy was chilling in his bed, she gave him a sedative shot in his stomach area then hooked up the IV to his arm. It was very calm and peaceful.

She was calm and surrounded by her besties.

I think everyone that’s had pets has as least one of these awful put the dog (or cat) down stories-I haven’t had a pet for many years but i do invite your comments here:
1) Is there such a thing as hospice care for animals? Meaning giving them pain medication (no not shots of Jack every few hours) to make the inevitable comfortable
2) I had a pet tabby cat born in our basement (in ‘71) along with 5! other siblings bc my older brother who worked at Fresh Meadows CC brought a ready to drop anchor(s) cat home. She was waddling like a portly Birkenstock-shod matron with birch tree-lookin’ cankles taking up the aisle at Trader Joe’s, but he just thought she was fat! I actually saw them make their entry into this mortal coil like a wrong-holed poop and I never watched “Discovery” agin!
The cat was remarkable in that he was obedient, came to you and jumped up on your lap when he was called by name like a dog and was very affectionate, licking your face also like a pup might. In the am he’d jump up to my bedroom window and yow good morning…we let him be an indoor-outdoor cat, never declawed him,but not long before the end (‘76) he got bit and scratched in a fight and one of his paws ballooned like a catcher’s mitt.
We took him to vet on 14th ave, Whitestone, he recovered but was never exactly the same, one day i reached out to pet him and he snarled/ spit at me, a day or 2 after that he went out never to return, without a trace. Could he have gotten an infection like what we know call FIV? Or knew he was sick and trying to part?
