I figured I'd start one considering we have several dipshits, aka "us," who carry and talk about their caches. From someone who has only fired a handgun once and has fired shotguns and rifles several times, where would one start in the process to arm themselves? I have easy access to a police firing range that does not allow anything other than handguns. If I were to purchase a shotgun or a rifle, where could I go to squeeze off a few rounds? I'm on Long Island and am not looking for a CCL, just home protection. For what is eventually coming.

I haven't been back on LI for over 20 years but I do remember shooting rifles and shotguns at a police range back in the 90's. I can't recall the exact one.

I only shoot at an indoor range every two years when the state forces me for requal.

I can get into the GCPD range with a handgun, but I think I'm gonna start with a shotgun.

Good thing about a shotgun for home defense is you can hit pretty much anything in front of you, bad thing about a shotgun for home defense is you hit pretty much anything in front of you. I bought a shotgun first until I did more reading and realized it was not the right move. I then went 9mm with home defense rounds that stop once they hit the person you are shooting at or in a wall rather than traveling through and hitting family members. I am basically a novice still but that is what my research found, FWIW.

My house is under construction/remodel so I have about 2 weeks before I can get all my gun stuff together but I will take inventory, get a holster I like and start to carry. I'll be damned if some young punk is gonna sucker punch me. Lot's of commentary on the fact that Israeli's were unarmed. Here in NC they say that 7/10 homes have at least a hand gun in the house. I'm starting to see why an AR 15 is a good idea.

Yes, hollow points are perfect for in the home etc. I have a Glock 17 9mm S and W bodyguard 380 (small carry piece) S and W M and P 9mm (7 bullets)

The beauty of a 12ga is you can carve a giant hole through someone or pepper them with 100's of BB's across their body....and shotguns are fun too shoot. Look into #4 buckshot. Edited again:

I'm starting to see why an AR 15 is a good idea. Once you get an AR you'll never go back because the platform excels at every level. It might be the most customizable tool in the world and they're also fun too shoot with almost no recoil, just make sure you have ear protection. You can get an upper and lower from PSA for ~$400 or less.

I'm looking for some cheap chest rig options. I'm not looking for Rambo stuff, just utility. I'm stuck with non-AR as my platform (M1A, 308), so I know my mag carrier options are limited.

We have a duty to retreat NY but it is not absolute. Which means grey area. Which means Soros DAs getting creative to protect criminals. codywarnercriminaldefense.com/can-you-stand-your-ground-in-new-york/
