Holy crap, that is a huge price difference. And I agree, very easy to do two each night, especially when the family is asleep. Throw on the headphones, open the laptop, check the twitters and sports sites...then go down the You Tube music rabbit hole. Def. can lead to some very depressing, deflated mornings though, much more than beer/wine etc...but sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. That's wild. I don't think I've ever gone over 100 dollars. In the 60 to 80 price range you're getting top of the line stuff. Not to disrespect I'd never put 112 bucks into the Glenlivet. Unfortunately, the trip over the pond and then the entry fees and taxes to the US are what add to the cost.

No disrespect felt, I would say it's a one time foray into spending that kind of $$ on whiskey. I've actually found Costco sells a huge bottle called "Irish Whiskey" that is probably actually Jamo for about 40 bucks, so more than likely I end up going that route. A little late in my life to be experimenting with expensive whiskey, lol. Gotta pay for one more college degree then get the fuck out of NY. That takes $ and thanks to Brandon, I've got a WHOLE lot less of it now.

Bumping this thread Friend offered me this, and it's very good. Over time, I feel I need some umph to my whiskey wether it's peat or cask strengths. All the middle of the road stuff like Aberlour is too bland for me. For pure marketing reasons, I prolly would never have bought this bottle with it's wannabe viking typo, but this stuff is great. Really nice Port finish. monwhisky.fr/3811-large_default/glenallachie-12-ans-ruby-port-wood-finish-48.jpg

Glad I don't live in Europe. My liver would look like shit drinking inexpensive good booze. I love quality but my pocketbook doesn't.

I'm trying to branch out since I'm always drinking Islay stuff. Went on a trip this year there and visited the distilleries (Kilchoman and Ardnahoe which is a new one and hasn't hit the market yet). For a non Islay, it's definitely worth it.

Something to be said for enjoying a nunaced drink that isn't obsessed with punching your palate (looking at you, Laphroaig).

Totally Agreed, but the A'bunadh is the exception in their catalogue. I always like cask strengths as I said. The 10, 12, 15....I find a bit boring. JMO

It's Talisker for me. Their 10 year old I would consider my "every day" scotch. I'll treat myself to an 18 year old or cask strength every now and then. I was drinking Laphroaig in Charleston a few weeks ago at a friend's 50th bday weekend. Woman I was talking to asked me to switch drinks because she said my breath was hurting her eyes lol.

While visiting Islay had the Laphroig with a sherry cask finish taht was perfect. Peat and the roundness of the sherry. Ardbeg too isn't for the faint of palate

Lolz pour ourself a glass of Laphroaig and the whole room smells like an Irish thatched roof cottage cooking a kettle of mutton stew
