Amari Cooper - WR - Crimson Tide
New York Jets GM Mike Maccagnan and New York Giants GM Jerry Reese were on hand at Alabama's pro day.
"Probably checking out WR Amari Cooper," ESPN NFL Nation reporter Rich Cimini noted of Maccagnan. ESPN colleague Greg Ostendorf added that the Oakland Raiders (No. 4), Jets (No. 6) and Giants (No. 9) have all been linked to Cooper. If Marcus Mariota goes No. 2, and the Raiders take Kevin White at No. 4, Cooper would make all sorts of sense for the Jets. "I don't really care who I play for," Cooper said. "I just want to play ball. I respect every NFL team because it was a dream I've had since I was a little kid. I don't care who I play for." The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Cooper collected 124 receptions for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. "First of all, he's a very talented guy," Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said. "He's got great quickness, great speed. He's got really good size, very good hands and he's got some running ability after the catch."

Marcus Mariota - QB - Ducks
TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline wrote that Oregon QB Marcus Mariota's pro day was "poor."
"I thought he looked mechanical, stiff and that his pass placement was not good," Pauline wrote. "Mariota threw behind receivers or had them waiting for passes as they left breaks, and his timing looked way off as he simulated dropping back into the pocket from under center. That said, in my opinion he's still very much a top-10 pick." Rotoworld's Josh Norris, who also attended the event, had a different take. "We have to stop asking or expecting these QBs to be perfect in every aspect of their game. The best and quality ones break the molds," Norris tweeted. Three or four passes hit the ground during Mariota's throwing display. As we said last year after Teddy Bridgewater's pro day, nitpick an elite prospect's workout at your own risk. Like Bridgewater, Mariota has sensational tape.

David Johnson - RB - Panthers
Northern Iowa RB David Johnson will not be a "foundation back" in the NFL, says NFL Films' Greg Cosell.
"His size, his straight-line speed, and his receiving ability will get him drafted, but you have to understand his limitations," Cosell said. "He's not an inside runner. He's not a powerful runner despite his size. He's not really that laterally quick. To me, his best chance to be a factor is with a team that deploys a high percentage of shotgun with three-wide receiver personnel, and you can use him as a receiver. I don't think he's a foundation back in this league, based on his running style." At the combine, the 6-foot-1, 225-pound Johnson clocked a 4.50 40-yard dash, and leaped to a 41.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-7-inch broad jump. Johnson posted the second highest Speed Score amongst running backs. That performance had ESPN's Steve Muench and Kevin Weidl suggesting a Day 2 selection was in his future. Shane Ray - DL - Tigers
An NFC outside linebacker coach cautioned that Missouri DE Shane Ray "not like other guys from Missouri that we've seen."
"He's got serious speed to get over the top of tackles, and those other ends didn't have it," the coach said. "You just wish he was a little longer." Size remains the only major question on Ray's evaluation. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder (33 1/8-inch arms) "was often engulfed and glued to the bigger tackles he faced. ... but Ray doesn't have many other weaknesses," wrote NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein. "He has elite power for his size, violent hands, and pursues the quarterback and the ball like it's his last snap. He explodes off the line like a coiled spring. Ray has the potential to be a dominant pass rusher in the NFL and a potential Pro Bowler." Ray was a consensus All-American in his first season as starter, collecting 14.5 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss to earn SEC defensive player of the year honors.
