Nice to have a deep, quality bench. Murphy, Johnson or Cuddyer at 1st allows for Duda to get healthy. We miss the HR threat, but we gain a better BA. Can't wait for Wright's return. Will be good to have the Captain back. It's at the point too where whenever we have to bring someone back up (Wright, Matz..) we have to DFA a quality player - running out of guys like Campbell and Mayberry to demote. Good problem to have but some tough choices ahead. Cappy..... with Cespedes, Murphy and Duda FA's next year, who do you put a premium on. 1 Cespedes is worth 1 each of Murphy and Duda. I'd probably let Duda and Murphy walk if I could sign Cespedes. If I couldn't I'd definitely try and get those 2 to sign. 7 year/$140mil for Cespedes will probably be the starting point. That's David Wright money. 6 yr/$158 mil for Adrian Gonzales back in 2012 Murphy and Duda will probably be in the $8 - $10 mil range.

If it came down to Cespedes vs Murphy AND Duda I think I'd prefer to keep two bats vs the one. Comes down to a whole lot of other factors - who we keep when the seasons over, any other FAs or trades that float around there, how far we make it in the playoffs. If the rest of the team was exactly the same I think I'd rather have two guys you know can perform and are Mets through and through vs one bat in Cespedes. Idk, that's tough, could really go either way.

Anyway, I would take Murphy's money to sign Cespedes plus about another $10 mil per

Another sweep and 4.5 games ahead, this is getting too good to be true. This Pirates series will be the real test, if we can take the series then there's no doubt this team is for real. Nats facing the Giants too which helps us out, no easy wins.

Nats facing the Giants too which helps us out, no easy wins. Its never too good to be true until something is clinched. It has been a great August and I am as optimistic about this team as I have been for an awfully long time, but just think back to the last two real pennant races we were in. It will be too good to be true if/when we have clinched a spot -- Division preferable to that stupid one game playoff. Been keeping up with the game while travelling, and it sounds like its been a great week, in spite of the little hiccup in Tampa. Got to keep it going.

Tough loss. Bart pitched a great game.
Parnell's arm just not where it needs to be. Hoping Montero can get back here ASAP to offer some innings. Although a SP, I doubt he cracks the rotation this late in the year unless it is as a 6th starter to shave innings off of Harvey, DeGrom and Thor. Matz coming back will help as well. Thanks to SF we're still 4.5 up. After Pitt, Mets play 9 on the road. 2 @ Balt, 3@ Colorado and 4 with a rejuvenated Phillies team. Wash. has 2 more in SF followed by 9 home games against Brewers, Padres and Atl. Big road trip for Mets. Come back 6-3 or 5-4 we stand a good chance of being 3.5 games ahead.

Montero isn't expected to play is he? Haven't heard anything about that. Last night's game could've really gone either way, shame to waste a good Colon outing. Parnell has not been good of late. Need Duda back ASAP Also Wright expected back with the team for the Rockies series - he usually dominates in Denver so as good of a time as any. Will be interesting to see how they try to ease him back into things and if he can keep up right off the bat

What is the deal with Duda. Anything serious?

He has a lumbar strain - the team is downplaying it and not putting him on the DL, says he's just 'tight' so hopefully he'll be back soon, apparently as soon as this weekend

What is the deal with Duda. Anything serious? Montero pitched 2 innings. I expect him back when rosters expand as well. Collins has already told him to pick up the pace with the rehab. He's needed. ST. LUCIE 3, FORT MYERS 1: David Wright, playing his second rehab game, went 1-for-3 with a single and played six innings at third base. Rafael Montero, also rehabbing, started and pitched two innings, giving up one run on three hits. ( Tues. August 11)
News: Montero (shoulder), pitching for the first time since July 20, tossed two scoreless innings Thursday against the Gulf Coast League Cardinals, allowing one hit and striking out one, ESPN New York reports. (Fri Aug 7) . Steven Matz is due to begin a rehab assignment with the Florida State League club on Saturday. Matz is due to throw 25 pitches in the game. He is not expected to be activated from the DL until after rosters expand on Sept. 1. Read more in the Post, Newsday and at MLB.com.

Welp, knew that Pittsburgh series would be tough. Good news is we don't have to play the NL Central anymore this season...
