All the reports I have heard say that he saw the police and began to run from them. They then found a switchblade on him. Just minding his own business, with a deadly weapon. And yes, he didn't deserve to die. There's nothing unlawful about looking at the police and running. Especially with their history of brutality in Baltimore. And hey, switchblades don't kill people. People kill people, right? Assuming this is accurate, re: switchblades and Baltimore laws: ← 19 Police Ordinances → 59 Weapons → § 59-22 Switch-blade knives. → § 59-22 Switch-blade knives. If you’re reading this for anything important, you should double-check its accuracy on the official Baltimore Code of Public Local Laws website. (a) Possession or sale, etc., prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, carry, or possess any knife with an automatic spring or
other device for opening and/or closing the blade, commonly known as a switch-blade knife.
(b) Penalties. Any person violating the provisions of this section, shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined not more than $500 or be imprisoned for not more than 1 year, or both, in the discretion of the court. (City Code, 1950, art. 24, §155; 1966, art. 19, §160; 1976/83, art. 19, §185.) (Ord. 44-057.)

Now they're reporting that another prisoner in the van is saying Gray was trying to intentionally injure himself. Maybe we shouldn't rush to judgement?

And yes, he didn't deserve to die. Maybe he remembered he was late for an appointment. Lots of people run, without dying. It wasn't a switchblade, (although that's what the media is reporting). Check the police report which is available on the internet. Is there a link to the actual police report? Id been googling, but not finding anything other than media stories.

Its a shame he did die, that much is obvious.
Its also a shame that thugs are jeopardizing firefighter lives by slashing supply lines when they're trying to put out burning buildings in Baltimore.

All these riots and people condemning the police...come to find out the asshole did it to himself? I've seen it happen...too scared to go to jail, fine...I'll just hurt myself so I can go to the hospital instead. Like the guys who pretend they're suicidal because they think it'll put them in a better part of the jail. (spoiler alert: it most certainly does not)

Thanks! So he had a knife, sort of like a switchblade, but not technically a switchblade.
I personally think those laws on switchblades and other knives are antiquated and should be changed. But until enough people are aware and care enough to change the laws, that, and sidewalk spitting, and a host of other things are fair game for a police stop.

So then they should march to City Hall and the Governors mansion. Break a few windows there and relieve themselves on the pavement. Those people make the laws the cops are supposed to enforce.

"Not unlawful to run from the police"... Perhaps not. But fucking stupid to do it. Why? Ummm...because the cops will chase you, duh. I won't yell "n*gger" in a black neighborhood. It's legal for me to do so...but would you feel bad for me when I got beat up, shot and killed for it? It's not legal for you to do so. It's called hate speech and speech intended to incite a riot. Not protected by the 1st Amendment. Now they're reporting that another prisoner in the van is saying Gray was trying to intentionally injure himself. Maybe we shouldn't rush to judgement? LMFAO!! Like the guys who pretend they're suicidal because they think it'll put them in a better part of the jail. (spoiler alert: it most certainly does not) Because police officers (dirty ones) have never before created cover stories, intimated others to lie for them, falsified police reports or intimidated witnesses to not testify in cases before. All of a sudden 10 or 12 days later prior to the release of the autopsy report, a witness (someone who was arrested in a police van) turns up and says Gray tried to injure himself. If it smells fishy, it's probably gone bad. I work with police officers on almost a daily basis. I like them, we work together and frequently socialize together. The vast majority are great at their job and great people, but as was said earlier in this thread, there are always bad cops because there are always bad people in the world.

You are conflating the officer's right to stop Gray with Gray's right to go for a run. What gives rise to reasonable suspicion to justify a stop is not necessarily unlawful. Again, merely locking eyes with an officer and running is not unlawful--even if it would justify the stop. The stop was probably lawful although the article you linked illustrates some of the problems with the frisk and subsequent arrest.

Nigger. When will the cops be by to arrest me? If you're trying to prove the point of selective enforcement, it worked
