Semi-interesting article on SB Nation showing how long it took current SB-winning coaches to get their team there. While some of them had immediate success with a lot of wins their first year (Payton, Harbaugh) I would guess that was more of a decent to good roster previously coached by a lousy coach. Ultimately it took all of them (except one ) a good 4-5 years to get the championship. Most of the others had only about 2 more wins than the previous years, and given our problems at QB I think that sounds about right for Bowles. I think ours and Bowles' progress will be pretty predictable and based on how the roster can be improved. What I'm most curious to see this coming season is what Quinn does in Atlanta.

If the turkey gobble gobble man can make it to two AFC champ games in his 1st 2 years, no reason why Bowles can't.

I expect anywhere from a 7 - 9 to a 9 - 7 record this coming season. I cannot discount catching lighting in a bottle, and getting a Wild Card berth. However, without sounding like a broken record, this team will go as far as it's QB takes it. It Geno falls on his face, he's done. I don't think Fitz is the answer but will be a steady backup for someone. I'm cautiously optimistic that Petty can develop into a starter. Bottom line, this team needs a QB, when that happens, it will be a team to be reckoned with. That being said, every team has a window, wait too long to get a real QB and other parts of the team which are now strong will need attention.

Like I said 2 years ago this D buys you time and some wins, get a productive Qb and an O and the sky is the limit.

I always want to power wank with excitement whenever a new season is on its way.
This year though I'm more pumped then ever before, and the reason is Todd Bowles.
I'm excited to see a new brand of football, a new identity other than G&P and porous offensive football.
Maybe a defense that can turn the ball over and impact the scoreboard.
Maybe a QB that's in a system that can benefit his skill set instead of having a 1960's system forced on him.
Maybe having a coach that makes in game alterations and reacts to in game situations and can manage a clock.
Maybe a coach who tells his players the truth instead of boring the fuckin socks off them and blowing smoke up their arse for not performing.
Maybe a coach who will start players who deserve to play instead of his puppet vets.
This is a brand new Jets team, a new identity, and more importantly a new brand of 21st century football.

It's all about the QB. The worst QB of the coaches listed above is Kaepernick, and although I don't like him, he's been better than Geno. I'm not a Geno fan but I am at least curious to see what he can do with an offense with real weapons. This is a make or break season for him. So Bowles hopes in his first season as head coach will come down to the play of Smith or Fitzpatrick.

Geno must be lickin his chops, he's got a coach that identified from day one what system he was comfortable in and went out and got an OC who can tailor an offense to suit his skill set. Turkey pushed his system on 3 OC's, do you think MM wanted to run the rock and let his QB throw the ball 4 times, you even have to question the hiring of MM and whether a WCO suited Geno from the start. Hopefully this defense can turn the ball over and give Geno and the offense the ball back on the opposing team 20 instead of then having to drive the full length of the field every drive. I agree it's make or break for Geno, but at least he gets a fair shake this year.

It's been said a million times by now but Geno has all the tools around him to succeed, if he sinks its on him.

The issue will all come down to his football acumen. There are no excuses. I hope he proves all of the doubter, including me, wrong.

I expect us to get a bump just by having a new voice in the building that doesnt necessarily have ties to much of the roster. Players having to look over their shoulder is usually a good thing.
I still think the playoffs is a stretch but I felt the same way in 2006.
Honestly, I would be happy with consistency and some attention to detail and discipline. We had too many peaks and valleys with Rex. I really think the team took its foot off the gas at times b.c of all the hot air he was blowing up their asses.

Last 3 times we have changed coaches, we have made the playoffs. Time to make it 4 -- though it may hinge on what Geiley & Bowles can get out of the QB position.

This roster is so much more talented than the 09-10 teams aswell. Throw in Bowles whose brought a new air of optimism and I don't see a reason other than QB why we can't be successful this year.
