August 6, 2008The Jets acquired Brett Favre from the Packers for a conditional pick. The pick turned out to be the 83rd pick in the 2009 draft which the Packers traded to New England in order to move up for Clay Matthews. With the Jets original pick, the Patrots selected Brandon Tate. Favre and the Jets would have an up and down season in 2008. Jumping out to an 8-3 record and looking like a legitimate Super Bowl contender. But Favre would suffer a biceps tear, and teh Jets would drop four of their last 5 and miss the playoffs, leading to Eric Mangini's firing and the hiring of Rex Ryan. Favre would finish the season throwing 22 TDs and 22 Ints. That is more Ints in a season than either Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith have ever thrown in a single season.

I was so pumped when we got Favre, and how we started the 08 season....
Then the wheels fell off, in accordance with the prophecy....
So Jets!!!
Great update again Lith.

The Seattle game really stuck in my craw....best parts of that season was hanging 50+ on the Cardinals (Bolidin broken face game, Favre 6 tds), beating NE in overtime then beating the undefeated Titans the following week.

Yea....as I recall Favre was hurt for that game, the weather sucked in Seattle and Favre shudda been benched....
But no, he had to keep his precious streak going.....
That game killed us. 8-3 finishing 9-7..
It fucking gives me a stomach ache again, just typing this....

I remember the Broncos game. Coming off of two huge road wins -- in Tennessee and New England - coming home against the Broncos. Rainy afternoon, controversial fumble return for TD. I think it was Cotchery fell on the fumble, was clearly touched down, but a Bronco DB pried it loose and went for a TD. 7-0 Denver -- that play kind of set the tone for the rest of the season.

His arm looked like Pennington's post surgery during that last month of the season. Don't know if it was because of the streak or what it was, but Mangini just kept throwing Favre out there when the guy clearly had no arm strength. Just think of how much that last month has changed this franchise. If we get into the playoffs, then we likely don't fire Mangini, maybe Favre comes back for another season, no trade up for Sanchez. How much different might this franchise look today had we won one or two more games down the stretch in 2008. Not necessarily looking better, just different.

Fuck him and his precious streak - especially they way he revealed after the season that he was hurt - like it was our fault that we kept trotting him out there - he would have never taken himself anyway.

I agree with you. That is what, in my opinion at least, cost Mangini his job. Putting the fucking streak ahead of the team. Anyone watching those games knew that Favre was not right.

Aside from the Titans throwback unis, that was arguably the most fun game I'd been to at the old stadium. Favre to Coles was almost an automatic TD.

IIRC he had a torn biceps. Does anyone know how the injury occurred?
Mangini lost his job b.c of the press and Woody needing to energize the fanbase with a new stadium and PSLs on the way. Plus rumor is that Woody and Mangini didnt get along so well at the end. Mangini was an absolute prick but he never got half the opportunity that Rex did.

I was at that shootout at the Meadowlands against the Cardinals. Crazy points scored that game.
Same game that Erik Smith broke Anquan Boldin's face....lol

I still have no idea why Shotty had an injured Farve throw a million times against a shitty Seattle team in the snow. We should have ran the ball down their throat. I did love it when Ellis threw the giant snow ball at fans.
