I don't think Iupati comes cheaply. There'll be multiple teams chasing him. Using the money earmarked for Spiller could be enough to put the Jets over the hump to sign him. Personally, I think a free agent RB is a low priority signing compared to what Mac-daddy could sign in free agency. I'd rather chase free agent targets like Iupati, Cobb, Maxwell and a QB to compete with Geno than sign a RB. I agree on Spiller. This is a deep draft for RBs -- we can get a guy younger and cheaper than Spiller in the draft. Also, Spiller has a history of fumbling -- over his last 2 seasons, he has fumbled 7 times on less than 340 touches, a rate that is more twice the NFL average for RBs. We have turned the ball over way too much in the last few seasons to add a guy with a history of putting the ball on the ground. No thanks to Spiller. RB is a young man's position. I would rather get a guy like Jay Ajayi, Duke Johnson, David Johnson, David Cobb, etc. in the 3rd round of the draft.

That would likely give us Iupati and Aboushi at starting OG with Winters and Dozier backing up. Winters is a good backup but not a very good starter. I also think both Dozier and Aboushi could develop into OTs.

Dozier is a prototypical RG and doesn't have the agility to play OT and Aboushi has already converted from OT to guard because he isn't really suited for OT either. This team needs to acquire some depth at OT this year, whether it be through the draft or FA. If there is an injury to Brick or Breno this team is in trouble.

Dozier played 40+ games at RT in college. I would think we at least give him a look.

Playing RT for Furman is vastly different than playing it in the NFL. Same goes for Aboushi, he was absolutely destroyed at the Senior Bowl when playing OT. You even have a prospect like Brandon Scherff who people are questioning about being a RT in the NFL, a lot of scouts have him as a guard at the next level.

I see Winters as the RG as it suits his game perfectly. Dozier could actually become our center in time. We'll see what happens. As usual I disagree with this guy as we have RT totally covered should Breno go down and I think he'll see competition and could lose to Aboushi next TC. LT? Not many teams have backup LT's on their roster but it's why we continue to keep Ijalana.

He doesn't have the build or athleticism and those are two factors that you will never be able to change. Interesting about Dozier moving over to the center position. I do recall that about his game before he was even drafted and some projected his future to that position, I'm glad you brought that up. And call me crazy but I think Winters can still be an effective LG....maybe the coaching change and experience will do him some good. So many posters want instant gratification with almost every player drafted but IMO offensive line is one of the hardest transitions to the NFL along with QB and CB. I love some of the revisionist history when it comes to Brick and how utterly shitty he actually was as a rookie. Edit: last part is not directed at you.

I still think Winters can be effective as well, maybe a switch the right side could help him. I don't think he was as horrific as some made him out to be, he was just getting beat by the same move over and over again. It's fixable though.

There were fundamental mistakes I saw him make the last two years that I just couldn't chalk up to bad coaching. Maybe the light comes on this year, but the Jets can't continue with the stopgap approach at OG anymore. It's a disservice to Mangold and the skill positions.
