Would you rather have a high pick in a draft, or a playoff run you know won't result in a super bowl? Lets just say, given the two extreme hypothetical situations, if I could guarantee you a top 7 pick or guarantee you playoffs no further than afc championship, what would you pick? I ask this because there are two different types of people. One who believe once out of playoff contention there is no point in winning games because you get a worse pick, and the other fan who wants to win no matter what, even if it hurts our chances at getting a player.
There's pros and cons to each. One can say a good player can be had at any point in a draft so where you pick isn't really that big of deal. Others might say otherwise. So where do you stand?
Many people hate the notion of tanking, but I believe it is better for the team in the long run. Yes I think if I knew there was 0 percent of getting into the playoffs, give me the pick. It helps us out in the long run.
This is completely just out of boredom because it's offseason, not suggesting anything else. Just something to talk about.

Both. A playoff run with a high pick we got from another team!

playoff run...isn't the whole point of having high draft picks is too make it into playoff run?

Teams who pick consistantly in the late end of the first round seem to do pretty well for themselves. Of course, that's chicken or the egg as to which produces which, but teams with good scouts have lasting success, even picking after teams who traditionally do poorly in the draft. Wilkerson was the 29th pick, IIRC. Milliner was the 9th. Give me the playoff runs with low picks. Get into the show often and you run up your blind squirrel/nut chances.

If you are making a legitimate run the pick doesn't matter.

Plenty of washboard chicks out there. All things being equal, give me the chick with the Houdini ass. Makes my paycheck disappear.

playoff run. the draft is so iffy that a high pick doesn't guarantee teams anything. teams like green bay have maybe a handful of free agent type players. most of the players come through the draft or undrafted free agents. and green bay has been pretty good for a very long time and haven't had the luxury of really high draft picks. and then look at teams like detroit or even cleveland that have been bad for a really long time. detroit has a ton of high draft picks and they still stink. they even have a really good qb and stink. cleveland? no one knows what's going on there. imo the ideal situation is to use your players and parlay them into high draft picks by trading them much like the patsies did with bledsoe or seymour. if the nfl made trades easier then there would be more action. the bottom line is you need success to increase the value of your plaers and to get that success you may need to get some high draft picks or make trades or get free agents.
