According to that chart that DDNY posted, Germany alone is shorting it's NATO contributions by at least 50 billion dollars a year. Europe has the population and the economies to field a military to defend themselves. They need to take care of themselves and we need to get out. You need to look at more than a price tag. You understand why NATO exists right? Bullshit. That chart is from NATO. 2% GDP is what members are supposed to contribute. Germany is a a wealthy country. They need to pay their share. Oh, and that line about protecting membership? I took that right from NATOs website. It's not 1949 anymore and Europe has been rebuilt. They can protect themselves. I can't see getting into a land war with Russia over fuckin Albania. |

Our vets get terrible healthcare. Medicare and Social Security are almost broke. You talk about this commitment to NATO like its a pact with God. How about we keep our commitments that we made to Americans? Europe can afford to protect themselves. Whether they do or not should be up to them. And I don't think Russia is our biggest enemy, it's China. I couldn't find out how much we pay China every year in interest every year but they own over a trillion dollars in debt. So we are financing the protection of Europe with money borrowed from the Chinese and pay them to spy on us and steal our intellectual property. Our priorities are so fucked right now in this country it's not even funny. |

I'm not saying leave NATO tomorrow but some hard conversations need to happen. If they don't want to pick up the tab then we need to have a conversation about leaving. It will give them a few years to plan ahead for it. Oh, and you know why Europe has all those social programs that you love? Because they don't have to pay for a gigantic fucking military like we do. |
