They no longer hate us because we are there. They hate our culture and wants it wiped out. I watched an episode of Frontline about Saudi Arabia. With the collapse in oil prices they are cutting back on the basics they provide to their people, and they projected they would be broke in five years if oil stayed low. They pay the Mullahs to keep the masses quiet. If that money dries up those countries revert back to camel riding tribe fighting regional squabbles and they won't really be thinking about us. |

Its funny because I hear a lot of people talking about our costs abroad. Nobody seemed to talk about these things before Trump. Why the hell do we need 48000 troops in Germany? 52000 in Japan. 25000 in Korea. WWII is over. I could see having a few thousand here and there to help out our allies but this is crazy. Freedom isn't free. If Europe wants to be free and assure that freedom for future generations let them pay the cost. Why are you so hung up on the US being a superpower anyway. If we hadnt fucked around in other people's business we'd be in a better place right now it seems. Our deficit would probably be 5-8 Trillion dollars lower. Why are you obsessed with the cost? So I just looked up how many troops we have in Germany. I got 48,000 at a cost of 8 billion dollars a year. I doubt that includes veterans healthcare. Europeans need to start picking up the tab for that or we need to revisit our military commitments. Its funny because I hear a lot of people talking about our costs abroad. If you are worried about a few billion dollars, (or 3.5 Trillion on the F35) stop making jets the Pentagon doesn't even want. Isolationism doesn't work. The economy is global. The loss of a few European countries will cost us way more than what we spend. And open up a vacuum for who knows what. Talk about a sign of weakness, it will be an open invitation. Without staging spots around the globe there will be absolutely no deterrent. Even if our President had ball the size of bowling balls, WTF can he do when we are half way around the globe away? |
