I am a Jets fan, period. That's why I am upset. I have seen this morbid franchise repeat the same mistakes time-and-time again as a lifelong fan. We did the same dumb shit this morning as we have the past 30 years I am following the team. As for our 4-12 record, with the lack of talent and a QB who was a turnover machine, I could easily argue we could have won 6/7 more games. That in itself is amazing! Take a step back. 6 years and in two of those we had great success. many things have changed as Harrier mentioned. If we look at this completely objectively (ala a science experiment) doesn't it make sense that the constant very well might have been the issue. I am being honest when I say that I THINK your emotional attachment to Rex might be overriding the logic I know you have (we have agreed on plenty of stuff in the past and you always have been reasonable). Maybe I am off, but don't you think it is a little overboard to say that this is a blatantly obvious mistake? JMHO Fair enough. Maybe I am over-the-top on this topic. However, like you, I just want to win. In my 3 decades of NYJ football, I have seen it all. I am sure many others here can say the same too. IMO, I just think we made the wrong move today. I was hoping at least that Woody would allow the new GM, a football man (or woman as he said in his press conference), to make the decision. When I see Pete Carroll winning championships at USC and now Seattle, I fear our organizational demons will haunt us when Rex is winning SBs in Atlanta or elsewhere.

Look don't take this wrong, I like a lot of your posts, but wtf do you need to see? 4 years no playoffs 2 shitty OC hires and plenty of other shite staff hires. 2 GM's 2 young QB's 5-6 1st round picks on Defense. 4-12 record. A putrid offense for his entire tenure. Terrible in game manager.
where do you draw the line? When is enough enough for you? I get people like his personality, but FFS this is borderline obsession with some peope. Are we Jet or Rex Ryan fans? Good post and all fair points. I've always said that when the HC has been the same, you give him 3 OCs, 2 QBs and 2 GMs, then when do you actually blame the HC for the failings? I can't argue that point. However, the QUANTITY of those people in those positions isn't the problem. It's the QUALITY. I have never once heard someone say, "I'm shocked that the Jets aren't winning significantly with Geno Smith," "I'm shocked that Andy Reid didn't take Marty to KC with him," "I'm shocked that Tannenbaum isn't a GM somewhere else," "I'm shocked that the teams where Schottenheimer and Sparano are coaching are 9 - 23." If you took a race car driver like Jeff Gordon and gave him a Yugo, then a Toyota Prius, and then a Dodge Dart and he still wasn't winning races, do you blame the driver for not winning the Indy 500? "But....we gave him 3 different cars! It had to be him even though when he had a true, well-equipped NASCAR car in 2009 and 2010 he was finishing in the Top 4." Rex is far from perfect but my opinion is that the good outweighed the bad. The biggest problem is that the Jets organization NEVER REALIZED HOW TO EMPHASIZE THE GOOD WITH REX AND MITIGATE THE BAD. The guy is a great defensive coach and motivator. He's not good with offense and he's not great at hiring/personnel. So a smart team would recognize that you need a true football guy at the GM spot to help hire the RIGHT OC and get the right players. The Jets took an excellent head coach who had some deficiencies and THEY NEVER HELPED WITH THE DEFICIENCIES. Rex never worked under a GM who was a true football guy. We went from an overspending bean counter to an under spending bean counter. That's going backwards. I accept he's a good coach and motivator, and I will accept the good points you make about not always having a fair deck, however here is where that argument falls short for me.... Rex was part of the build in the past 6 years, HE had a massive say on draft picks, HE got his QB in Sanchez, HE had a big say in all defensive draft picks, HE hired Sparano and MM etc. HE has had huge influence over this organisation, and he deserves to be held accountable for it's short-comings like everyone else. This was not a case of two GM's failing Rex all the time, Rex was part of the restructure and every re-tool. I will admit Idzik left him short this year, but the excuse that everyone is failing Rex doesn't wash, he's been here six years and has contributed to this mess.

LMAO. I am glad someone can find some humor on this sad day. Here's hoping we all are laughing in the future when we look back at this day reflecting on what it took to get us to the promised land -- a SB trophy! Otherwise, anything less is a failure imo. So you don't deny it's the teeth.... interesting... ![8-|](http://i.imgur.com/dwL9udo.gif) Lol.

I've said my peace. I think firing Rex was a mistake. My approach would have been Fire Idzik, Retain Rex, get a strong offensive-minded GM and a new QB. But at this point we're moving forward. The one thing I will say that I fear is a long, slow rebuild because I think we had a bad offense and a defense that, with Rex, was 2 CBs away from being elite again. Now I see us taking a step back on D and still have the league's 31st offense. One positive - The Jets have managed to turn things around quickly before. We had a rookie HC take the Jets to the AFCCG with a rookie QB, so it can be done, but again, it was done primarily with defense and Rex's scheme. I'm trying to stay positive but until we see the direction with the GM and HC there's a major risk that things get worse before they get better. Once again, well-said. I agree. Hope I am wrong. Will be more than happy to post here that I was a dumbass after we are lifting the Lombardi. Right now, I just have my doubts.

No coach gets 3 GM's, it's unheard of, it also means the GM job again is undesirable. To fire the GM again and keep Rex would have been idiotic.

Stop the nonsense. Nobody follows a coach. These guys are a play away from career ending injuries. They go where the most money is. PERIOD. You think Mario Williams wanted to play in Buffalo? $100 Million can change a guys mind. As you will see when Revis tosses your gay looking shit jerseys in the trash after this winter. actually they gonna go on ebay, but he may wanna try to do that before they get bounced and his swag loses value Exactly my point. Sometimes you aren't so dumb.

Prediction - Rex does TV in 2015, Wilkerson plays out his contract and Jets may not franchise him. Both end up in Miami after next year when Philbin is retired. I think Rex would do well with Tannehill. I think you are right on the money with that one. I was thinking it was going to happen this year but Revis would sign with MIA and MO to follow.

Will be more than happy to post here that I was a dumbass after we are lifting the Lombardi. Right now, I just have my doubts. Just look at it this way, the people yelling at you are really trying to make you feel better about your doubts ![:D](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) . Jason from OTC said it best: Rex is great for a veteran team, but he is just not that great with developing a program. In my mind he is the guy that can put you over the top, but he may not be the best at developing younger talent (outside of DL). I am not one of those people who thinks he literally the worst coach around. But he has major shortcomings with regards to long term success. He is Parcells w/o the disciplinarian side which allows him to motivate, but long run becomes an issue when new talent needs to be developed. It also seems that he can't put together a great coaching staff and that maybe there is some conflict internally with the people that work under him. The problem with JetStream's proposed plan is that you really need the team to be in lockstep. We shouldn't need a GM to tell Rex he can't draft defense year after year or to force Rex to push out under performing players. These are some of the things that I think people who wanted Rex back tend to gloss over. There tends to be this idea that if blame Rex that we aren't admitting that he was given a less than ideal roster to work with. That's not the case (at least for me). I think Idzik is a terrible GM, far worse than Rex is as a HC. That being said I don't think people here would be clamoring for Jeff Fischer and the guy essentially is Rex Ryan w/ a Superbowl visit. He coached up a nice St. Louis defense that had nothing at QB to 6-10 (along with a little luck here and there) in the NFC West. Unless Fisher is awesome in your book there might be some emotional component that is clouding the judgement.

That's exactly why the Jets felt forced to do something that they may have had doubts doing, getting rid of Rex. If last year's GM hire was a good one I don't think we're a 4 win team and I don't think Rex is gone. The misfire on Idzik set this franchise back several years and led to the firing of the best HC we've had since Parcells. I agree 100%, we couldn't force a coach on a new GM again, even if it was the right thing to do IMO. Had the GM hire been better 2 years ago then Rex is going into this season with a much better roster, he possibly still has Revis on the team, and has a young, talented roster after 12 picks in the deepest draft in a decade. John Idzik destroyed the Jets.

And on that note if the better GMs didn't want Rex shouldn't that tell us something about his style as a HC?
