Call me nuts, call me crazy, I thought Petty showed a great deal of leadership as a greenhorn and rallied a team showing the possibility of a second consecutive humiliation. Agree that Petty showed poise late in the game and made some plays -- especially after a such brutal start. But the veteran who stepped up, put the team on his back and refused to lose was Bilal Powell. I really hope to see him get a shot as a feature back over these last 3 games -- regardless of Forte's health. All the guy ever does is make plays, and yet he has not been able to get on the field. Lets see if he can handle 20 carries a game over this last month. Last year he had a terrific December if I recall correctly

That and Fitz going all fitz mode.

Get some guys who want to play. Guys who will step up and stick their nose in a play on defense (looks at Revis running away from contact). Build the offensive line and the running game. It helped Mark Sanchez as a rookie and it took pressure off the defense. Aside from CB, I'd use all our other draft picks on OLine and a quality RB. It's what you do around a young QB, whether it's Petty, Hackenberg or whoever. Just my two cents. I mean, look at Dak Prescott from crying out loud! He's not great, he was what....a 4th round rookie? Put him behind the best OLine in football, give him a great RB and just ask him to make 3 or 4 important passes per game. Voila! 11-2 record.

And they now don't need a QB? Holy shit, Rex was right!

While I agree that Dak has the luxury of playing behind a great OL, the kid still deserves some credit. He is still throwing over 30 times per game and completing over 65% of his passes, something no Jet QB has approached since Brett Favre. And he has thrown just 4 picks this season -- thats a quarter in KC for Ryan Fitzpatrick. Dak is in a great situation, but he has also playing great most of the year. He is a big reason for the Cowboy's success. Sanchez never had a season close to what Dak has done so far.

I agree that Dak is playing well but the entire situation is setup for him to do so. Even you would complete 65% of your passes if the box was always loaded to stop Elliott. He's a good player but that's the kind of environment we need to put our QBs in, particularly if we've taken the quantity vs. quality approach on drafting QBs. The Jets are trying to find/mold that diamond in the rough with Petty and/or Hack. You have to put guys like that in a little bit of a cocoon to foster that development IMO. We don't have an Andrew Luck or a Russell Wilson that can practically carry a team and make the offense look better than it is. We need to prop up the QB to a degree.

I don't disagree in the context of the Jets. If we don't have that franchise guy (and I don't think we do), either go all in to get him, in which case you can't be wrong, or build around the QB position. Upgrade the OL and add weapons around our QB. Makes sense and I agree 100%. The piece I disagree with is devaluing Dak's contribution. Last year, the Cowboys with Darren McFadden and the same OL were top 10 in rushing and 3rd in the league in average rushing yards per attempt (4.6) This year they are number 2 at 4.8. In 2015, they had a solid running attack, a great OL, with weapons like Dez and Jason Witten. In a great situation, Brandon Weeden, Kellen Moore and Matt Cassel all sucked and the Cowboys lost 12 games. The biggest difference in them this year, in my opinion is Dak. You can't just throw any QB out there and win, even in a great situation. I am not saying Dak will be a great QB -- but he is having a great year and I think he deserves more credit than he gets. He is playing at an elite level.

Is this a discussion about Petty, or Bowles? The two are independent of each other.
With with below average QB plays is difficult. But we see it all the time, when coaches gameplan to exploit team weaknesses, and shield our weaknesses...
Show me one game this year where we came in with a gameplan that was effective on both fronts? I can point to a couple quarters. ie. last week, but i feel Powell took that upon himself.
