I'll defer to Mike Rowe on this one. Give his podcast a listen. Im a big fan of Mike Rowe and I can tell you if I didnt make a kings ranson as a financial pro.. Id make a kings ransom as an electrician. Id focus, show up on time, do great work and make the customer happy and they would pay a small premium for that. You and I had this discussion. I have 2 plumbers as clients. 1 makes 80K, the other 200K. They both are solo but one wont work past 5pm or on Saturday. BUT... the average person, in average circumstances will earn more with a degree. Google it.. EVERY study shows it. I mean...that's great. Id be the 80k guy. Because money can't buy missed time with your family and kiddos. Of course, that line of reasoning only works if you live in an area where the cost of living is conducive to that.

Some of the biggest most uselss morons I know of have "college degrees" It's not one size fits all. I know very smart peeps without college degrees, but you know within 5 minutes they didn't go to college. On the flip side, I've had colleagues with Master's Degrees who couldn't compose a grammatically correct paragraph.

Everyone will never happen but I see so many young kids who dont go basically because their parents didnt see it as a big deal. So... it will never be average but lump people into 2 categories. with and without college and look at them. Physically, financially, where they live, etc. It becomes pretty obvious which group lives a better life, on average.

The reality is my most of clients, as a sample, and I for example who make way in excess of 200K have great relationships with our kids. I never missed a game and I did homework with my kids. I took them on college tours, vacations etc. I find the opposite is true. The 80K parent is not as good a parent in so many cases. Meaning, I see no advantage to working less, having less, all on the thought that its for the kids. This is my opinion of course, based on what I see amongst friends, colleagues and 300 or so clients. They have taught their kids that hard work is not valuable and that their are things not attainable. Thank goodness Bill Gates and Thomas Edison werent taught that.

I have found that the more I have moved up in the corporate world the more freedom and flexibility of schedule I have. I have also been able to get to the majority of my kids games and events. The difference is I also make up time on nights and weekends. Once you get out of the lower ranks it is about what you get done and your value rather than punching the clock.
