Everyone OK with this? If Trump signs the legislation, as expected, providers will be able to monitor their customers' behavior online and, without their permission, use their personal and financial information to sell highly targeted ads - making them rivals to Google and Facebook in the $83 billion online advertising market. The providers could also sell their users' information directly to marketers, financial firms and other companies that mine personal data - all of whom could use the data without consumers' consent. In addition, the Federal Communications Commission, which initially drafted the protections, will be forbidden from issuing similar rules in the future.

Well... you guys have been going on about the post office. If they actually do this, plenty of people are going to go back to using the mail for billing and banking. More face-to-face = more jobs!

I highly doubt that. It isn't like online banking boomed after the law was put in place last year. As for FF2s question I would have to do some research. Something tells me that his few paragraphs and lack of a link only tell a small part of the story. If it is an accurate accounting then I would say I am against it.

Thats how I understand the old rule was to work... Youtube, Facebook, Google, etc. can but ISPs cant. I guess the thought being that you can simply choose to NOT use those apps, while using an ISP, and often only one choice of ISP, is pretty much required.

Correct, its not so simple in may areas to just "switch providers"

You don't transmit bank account info, social security numbers, medical info, etc through YouTube or Facebook or Google. But you do thru your ISP.

Yes, the thinking being you can opt to stay off YouTube...but not your ISP.

Theres plenty of info out there, honestly wasn't cherry picking, just trying to get to the jist of it all. If someone has more info, please elaborate.

Meh. Ragu is already selling our info. Every time you install an app or use a program you agree to this stuff. They already have all this information. I would like to see something in the bill that requires them to reinvest the money in our network infrastructure so we get better internet or use the revenue to bring down the costs to consumer. Pipe dream, I know.
FF2, go look if any of the major ISPs have stockholders with Russian names. You could win a Pulitzer.

I'm gonna protest by rubbing one out in front of my smart tv. I'll start yelling about Al Queda and Isis right before I blow so I'm sure they are watching.

They just don't have to pretend now... And all those morons claiming "conspiracy therory" and ahem "philanthropist" about a certain shitbag are now PROVEN to be completely full of shit and flat out WRONG/slash/BRAINWASHED
