So 9 radiation treatments done, 16 more to go. Mouth is getting a bit sore and the neck is red but so far intact. No flaking or cracking. Using a 70 g tube of Calendula every 5 days helps. Nausea sucks though thank God for Zophran(sp). Shit is amazing for nausea. Not eating as I used to but still getting enough to be ok. Fatigue has not yet kicked in. T he Doc's are surprised I am still working full time and doing some workouts. Overall not bad. Not that I recommend it for shits and giggles but it really has not been terrible. My story certainly could change in three weeks though. Shit is cumulative.
Cancer sucks, but cancer treatments they really suck.

It's fucking back. Below is the note I sent to most family and friends.
On Sat, 12/17 I had my routine CT scans. On Sunday, the 18th we had gotten 2 clean reports. On Monday, the 19th we found out one was indeed “dirty”. As protocol insists, I had an immediate brain MRI to ensure Melanoma did not metastasize to the brain. It did not. On Friday 12/30 I went to UNCCH for a biopsy of my liver, which turned out to be a day-long process. We received a call from the Oncology team last night and were told the results show that the mass found is indeed Melanoma. So, after 18 months in remission, it has returned. 68% of stage 4 Melanoma returns within 5 years and 82% in 10. So, this was not unexpected. I will begin treatment next Tuesday. These will be a little different than the last time. This round will be monthly and a combination of 2 drugs, OPDIVO (Nivolumab) and Yervoy (ipilimumab), or Nippy and Ippy, as we refer to them in our household. Last time I only had the two for the first 4 treatments and then switched to just Ippy for the next 26 treatments, and they worked. This time I will be given both for 13 or 14 months. My progress will be monitored by quarterly CT scans. This is just the next tool in the shed. There are more in case this plan does not eradicate cancer. We are as optimistic today as we were in June of 2019 when we started the first round.
Wifne is a mess again but not as bad as in 2017. We literally found out the cancer was back 7 hours after welcoming our first Granbaby into the world. Rough day to say the least. We still have not told Sopne and DIL. Who wants this shit tied to the birth of your first child.

A reoccurrence of Stage 4 Melanoma is a whole different beast, to be honest. We do have more tools so it is far from over. I tolerated the last round very well and expect the same this time around.
