Wife is speaking at a conference, I am tagging along. Outside of "go to Bourbon st", any suggestions for a 3 day trip?
Never been, huge zydeco/blues fan.

Never been, would love to go simply for the food. Andrew Zimmern was just there and did one of his Delicious Destinations. If you can find it On Demand or YouTube, I'd watch it. Some good foodie recommendations. Here's an interesting article- number 22 is the best. www.google.com/amp/s/www.thrillist.com/amphtml/entertainment/new-orleans/things-you-have-to-explain-to-out-of-towners-about-new-orleans-thrillist-new-orleans22. This town smells Depending on where you are (or “where y’at,” rather) and what time of year it is, New Orleans might smell like horse manure, cigarettes, urine, dead fish, marijuana, vomit, diesel fumes, fried chicken, Confederate jasmine, old wood, coffee, Angel’s Trumpet flowers, mown grass, mossy trees, and sweet olive. _

Ha ha..believe me, all that sh*t is still etched on my brain...I'm as worried about the cawps as I am the bad guys because it seems they are co-mingled in many circumstances, lol. My radar will be on defcon 10 for sure.

Bring your gun, that place is dangerous. When I went to Mardi Gras years ago a lady cop killed her partner when she robbed a Chinese restaurant that he worked at as a second job.
House of Blues was good for music. Seating is first come first sit but just walk up to the front and find security. Twenty bucks got us to the head of the line.
If you want atmosphere head to Brennan's for brunch. Cafe Du Monde for baguettes and coffee.
Tons of pickpockets too.

Per capita murder capital of the US.
Do everyone a solid and pack your heat and strap it on when you get there.

I was there several times back in the 90s. Really enjoyed the food.
Definitely go have a chicory café au lait and beignets at Cafe Du Monde. You will be craving them for years. Great atmosphere, too. Then check out Acme Oyster bar for oysters and beer.
Also go get a "debris" sandwich at Mother's. Sounds weird but it's incredible. Another great sandwich is the muffuletta at Central Grocery. It's a classic and delicious.
Sorry I can't give you current hot restaurants as I have not been there in years. Trust me on the recommendations above.
EDIT: Make sure you eat a fried oyster "po boy". Think I had it at Acme. But lots of places make them.

I was just there. Grilled oysters are a must. Go to Acme Oyster House for them. Located on Bourbon at Iberville St. The line will be out the door, however it moves. If you want a fancy dinner while there, go to Commander's Palace. Incredible food and atmosphere. Save room for the bread pudding for dessert. Another really good restaurant is Tableau. It is one of Dickie Brennan's restaurants. His flagship Brennan's is another great choice. As mentioned, do Cafe Du Monde for chicory coffee and beignets. Once again, there will be a line, but it moves quickly. If you love fish and seafood, you can't go wrong. Try to go to a crawfish boil. Remember, pinch the tails and suck the heads! Now a word about crime. You are a NY'er with street smarts. With that in mind, you will be fine. Will you see homeless people? Yes. I find the homeless to be far more aggressive in San Francisco than New Orleans. If you have the time, go to the WW2 museum. Over 2 levels, one dedicated to Europe, the other to the Pacific, you get to witness the horror of war. In short, go and have fun! For my money, it is the best food and music city in the US.

Grabbed a team of picks staying at a hotel on the upper West side about 20 years ago. They had hundreds of ID's/Credit Cards. All traced back to tourists who had been to New Orleans.
