Pete's demo version is actually better than The Who's. Agreed. Unearthed this one after Pat died recently. Great tune by the Smithereens, though oddly, the bass-line, which really drives the tune... seems invisible in the Youtubes versions of this. Weird.

Absolutely LOVE this tune and its funky, little groove. You're right about the bass. It should be louder. How the hell were these guys not bigger?

Poor Syd.....that Crazy Diamond. I'm not a Tim McGraw fan though I loved his dad Tug when he was a Met pitcher back in the day..(What kid, even a Yankee fan.. could resist a smiling dude named tug?). My wife turned me on to this one, and maybe because my kids are 11 and 20 this one blind-sided me and I still cant hear it without watering up a little bit.

Yeah, I have a 19 year-old in college about to come home for a few weeks. As Dads, we always want to spare them any of our tribulations. Put them on the right path.

I tell my big guy all the time....I only tell you this stuff because I am, and was... an asshole who made all the mistakes I want you to avoid if you can help it.

Any truth to the rumor that his nickname was supposed to be Rusty Trombone? * "(slang, vulgar) The act of performing anilingus whilst reaching in between the legs to administer manual stimulation of the penis." en.wiktionary.org/wiki/rusty_trombone
