Do you own a gun? Asking for a friend.  I'm beyond pro-2nd Amendment, but think we should adopt Icelands laws on guns, with one exception. There, anyone can own a gun, but it takes a year of safety lessons/training to get one. They see gun ownership as a responsibility rather than a right. My one exception is that, in my opinion, everyone petitioning for ownership should be given an independent, non-government sanctioned psychiatric evaluation. You fail the evaluation, you can petition again in five years. You're on anti-psychotic/anti-depressant medication, you can't even apply. I would fail the psych eval every time. Not because I'm "crazy" (well, depending who you ask...), but I'd fall into the pharma category. And I'm fine with that. Never had a desire to own a gun. I've shot handguns in my younger days, under police supervision, but didn't like it. So yeah, I'm very pro-2nd Amendment for those who want to apply, but it's not for me. This is a decent plan I could vote for. I still think the assault style weapons should be off the table for John Q. Public though, regardless. |

so it turns out the el paso shooter is a hard core progressive and the dayton shooter self-identified as a 'leftist' not hearing it on cnn though. huh. Jumping to conclusions helps how? Dayton shooter had a 100 round drum magazine. I think the point is that the internet, media and dem candidates all are blamiing "Right Wing Terrorists" and Trump. Today #WhiteSupremacistInChief is trending, yesterday it was something about #TrumpTerrorists. They want to knee jerk blame Republicansbut that is dividing our country a lot more than the couple of white supremacists left in the country. |

Can anyone name any other spree killing that also included a direct family relation? it's really odd. So he drove with her and then killed her and 8 strangers. What puzzle are you attempting to make here? |

I agree mental health and drugs need to me in the equation. Only problem is how you do get around HIPPA? Not to mention that you are letting a group determine who has their rights removed. Just because it isn't government run, which is another issue, doesn't mean it will be a-political. Look at Google and Facebook. As for the guns, other than what someone here, sorry I don't remember who, said about ARs being worse than other guns there are a lot of gun experts, and yes I concede their biases, that say the AR is really just a black long rifle and that other than the look there are many other rifles that are worse but don't look as scary. I honestly don't know about that one. |

I am not a gun guy, I was trained house to use a M-16 25 years ago and have shot a AR-15 and other rifles since then, that is all i got. |

I have read a lot, but I shot an M-16 in basic training and shot some guns once at a range a long time ago. |

It's incredibly odd that he a) drove there with his sis b) obviously managed to conceal from her his gun, body armor and muffs c) return to the vehicle to get all that stuff and d) make sure she's one of the first ones (<60 sec) shot. Follow the bouncing ball - OP posted about this kid looking like an Incel - and I am saying this sure looks like something of that flavor. Not hard to parse and no kind of 'conspiracy' theory. |

His grandmother tried to get him help so he was known by the FBI and ATF. He explicitly stated his plan, yet he was arrested IN THE HOTEL ROOM?!?!?!?! How the fuck did he get that far? Keystone cops.
