You're absolutely right, Hawkeye. Unfortunately the media (and therefore the SOJ fans) will be on the warpath if the Jets go defense again. I'd still not be a fan of a Mariota selection, but Fowler or Beasley would be more than fine with me. It feels like forever since we spent a high draft pick on a true outside pass rusher or at the linebacker position. Gholston was a risk but there was no one else in that draft worthy of the sixth pick at the time, so I do not count him. We have used picks on Davis at ILB and converting Coples to outside linebacker. That seems to be about it. I think it is time to get a true monster OLB and pass rushing specialist. I know that some people are sick of using first round draft picks on defense, but all of those picks have primarily been on the line or the secondary. We have to make some investments at linebacker. Need to get younger on the outside. Guys like Pace and Babin need to be sent off into the sunset. We should not be relying on those guys.

It's called WR and there are some blue-chippers this year, and if Parker is on the board at #6 he should be a New York Jet. We can fill our defensive liabilities in free agency....how would we ever be able to land a top WR in free agency? None of the top WR's are going too see the open market and even if they did, they're not coming here. It's more than overdue to start drafting offense and build it with home grown talent.

Fair point, although if you look at our starting wide receivers iright now they were both acquired from other teams (Decker and Harvin). Personally, I believe that both positions, wide receiver and OLB, should be addressed in free agency. To what degree the Jets will be successful in doing that remains to be seen. We may acquire free agents at both of those positions, but whether they are mediocre, starting material, or elite players will likely drive what we do in the draft following.

Maybe so, but to eliminate WR all together is foolish. Which O lineman are you taking over one of the top 3 WRs? I would likely take Collins and Scherff ahead of Parker for sure, possibly Cooper as well. I'd take Fowler for sure ahead of Cooper and Parker, possibly White. I'd likely take Beasely ahead of Parker. I personally think Gregory has big bust potential, but I'd have to take him at 6 over any of them except maybe Fowler. If the Jets drafted Landon Collins at 6, I would seriously be done with this team for good. That would be 10000x worse than the Pryor pick last year, and that was pretty bad. I'm not sure words can express just how awful that pick would be.

Fuck that noise.

Oh, that makes only slightly more sense, although still a reach IMO. Agreed. I don't think there are any tackles in this draft that are worth a top 10 pick. If we take one I'd want to trade back. Even then I'd still be mad since there will be a top WR or Fowler at our pick

If you are on Twitter, I suggest reading his timeline on the matter. He doesn't get into too much insight, but says you can never have enough Pass Rushers. He also says elite WRs are luxury. I whole heartedly agree with him. I think the Jets would be crazy to take a WR at 6. Someone else mentioned on his timeline that the last 5 SB champs had #1 WRs of Edlemen, Tate, Boldin, Victor Cruz and Greg Jennings. I personally hope the Jets go Mariota at 6, but if they go Beasley or Fowler or OL, I'd be perfectly fine. WR should not be the pick. To be pedantic, the Deflatriots also have Brady and Gronkowski on offence, so it's not like it's Edelman and nothing. The Seahawks won their Superbowl and came close to doubling up on the back of Marshawn Lynch on offence. The Ravens had Flacco hit a purple patch at the right time of the year.

i tend to agree with Woody, but then again who was the dynamite passrusher on the Flats*? the Seahawks ate shit when Avril left the game but generally its their secondary that wins the game. then you consider Bowles' history with getting the most out of lesser talent, and you even out the argument for taking one position over the other. you also have to consider the depth of that position in the draft. i'd say WR and passrusher are equal needs. let's go with BPA.
