Doesnt make sense. I think he is incredibly overrated and overpaid but I don't see them trading him. Nobody is going to give up a high draft pick and take on that contract and the cap hit for the 49ers is probably huge.

Not a chance the 49ers trade that guy. GM just came out and said as much. So? What does that prove? If I am choosing between an unnamed media source claiming a potential trade and the GM unambiguously claiming he won't be traded then I am more likely to believe the GM than a fabricated rumor.

Kaep should spend less time kissing his biceps and start watching more film.

Because GMs always tell the truth about their plans to ensure they eliminate whatever leverage they may have?

I hope this has legs to it. The Eagles end up trading a 2nd or 3rd round pick along with Foles to San Fran for Kaepernick and then Mariota falls to #6. I was wondering about that - but aren't the Titans and Raiders just as likely to draft him? I know they have 2nd yr QBs they feel alright about, but neither is a world beater...

I would rather take Foles, their 1st and 2nd this year and 2nd and 3rd next for the 6th or some similar ransom. We need picks and I think Foles is a better option that Mariota. Keep Geno as a backup for now. I agree with everything except keeping Ge-Bust. We can find a better backup. here's the thing though. the spent a 2nd round pick on geno and there are a couple of ways to recoup. the best is to get a qb who will push his azz and force him to be a better qb. if he does show way more his value increases either as a starter or as a potential trade prospect. the worst is for them to simply get another loser backup qb like brunnell or vick. like it or not, geno does have good physical talent it's what's between his ears that's the problem.

Jed York got behind a Steve Young article on how being a "pocket passer" means working hard, like a top notch lawyer. Not sure if Jim Tomsula can't be that guy; I'm sure York has extreme buyers remorse - should be a 4-12 season in SF. Lotsa tension.

Agree. He definitely has the physical tools. He needs help on the mental part of the game. Problem has been that his head coach did not know how to develop offensive talent. In 6 years, he didn't develop one young offensive player to become above average at his position. Not one. Hopefully the new coaching staff will give him the development support he needs.

You consider amaro or Kerley better than 1/2 the guys at their position? I don't. And the reason he had mostly vets was because he couldn't develop anyone. Any team would prefer to develop their own. When you can't, you bring in vets who are typically expensive and limit your flexibility under the cap.

We spent tons of picks on defense and had very little "talent" to develop on offense IMO. We all know that Rex doesn't know an offense from a picketed fence, but let's be real. The Jets had an entire staff of OC, position coaches, offensive quality control, etc. and that didn't seem to work either. I don't think Bill Belidick taught Tom Sparklepony to throw a football. The fact of the matter is that we need to place real emphasis on drafting young offensive talent and then develop it. If Geno has another bad year do we blame Todd Bowles or Chan Gailey?.......I'd probably blame Geno Smith.
