Bowles played some 4-2-5 believe it or not. And he didn't do it just once. Mo - Snacks - Coples - Richardson would be pretty sick up front. Add a Fowler, Beasley, or Dupree to that group and QB's will have to wear Depends during games.

Coples will turn into a star when he can play inside regularly and return to a natural weight.Seems like just about everyone who knows anything about Coples understands this, but Rex. It's old news now being that Bowles is in town, but a head-scratcher for sure. Lets hope we get to finally see what he's made of this year.

Coples had his hand in the dirt plenty last year. I don't know why people think all he did was stood up as an OLB and bumped receivers. The guy is a sporadic contributor, at best. He's very overrated by jets fans because he'll make a big play every now and then, but disappears for the rest of the time. If he wasn't a first round pick, he'd probably already be gone. imo that seems to sum up coples. he had a rep for taking plays off and he has shown the same with the jets. if bowles can light a fire under him he may turn out to be a pretty good edge rusher.

put him back on the DL, where he belongs. enough of this square peg/round hole bullshit. let him do what he does best, which made him such an intriguing draft prospect to begin with.
he was never a pure edge-rusher, much less a LB fit to be playing in space. he's strong against the run and generates a fair amount of pressure, even if he's rarely the guy finishing the play on the QB.
i don't think we'd get a whole lot for him in a trade right now in any case. his draft status is irrelevant at this point, so think of him as a cheap vet who can hopefully become a consistent contributor as part of the DL rotation. a 4-man line with Coples and the "Sons" could be filthy.

I'd trade Coples to try and recoup one of the mid round choices we lost. While Coples is talented, at the end of the day, he belongs on the DL and, on the Jets, he is, at best, the 3rd best DL behind Wilkerson and Sheldon (although you can argue that Harrison is also better than Coples).

He will be the edge rusher this defense lacked.

Coples is Bryan Thomas 2.0. The man does what he is asked to do, is a consummate team player, and totally unappreciated by the fan base because he was drafted in the 1st round. If he was a 3d round pick, we'd all be excited that we have a steady hand at OLB/DE for the next 8 seasons. And this whole OLB/DE, hand in the dirt stuff belies an actual understanding of the multiple D fronts used by Rex. i.e. Coples "hand was in the Dirt" as often as the Jets were able last season because subpar CB play forced the Jets to give Coples coverage responsibilities he likely will not have this season.

Give Coples credit for having an intimidating presence against opposing QBs. I believe it was Coples's hard hit on Jake Locker last season, which knocked him out of the game with an injured throwing shoulder, that was the icing on the cake in Locker's decision to call it quits.

He will be the edge rusher this defense lacked. Coples is not an edge-rusher, never has been, likely never will be. He's always been a bull-rush type of player, often doing better from an inside position compared to an outside one. I'd really like for all the tools on JI who insisted he is built in the same mold of Suggs and Mario Williams to admit they were clueless.

It'll be interesting what happens to Coples if the Jets end up signing Osi.

It was in Bleacher Report the other day, some guy from a local paper tweeted that Osi visited and worked out at the Jets facility. It would be a nice grab for us and wouldn't necessarily lock the Jets into drafting a pass rusher in the 1st round.

If we don't win the Snoopy Bowl, I'd like to see Todd cornhole Coples at midfield after the game.
