Eh, I'm just not crazy about 25% of the cap going into one player (something like that was said somewhere) plus so much resources poured into one unit, the secondary. I'd rather have it spread around more. It's doubtful the shortcomings can be filled with starters from the draft. Revis is getting QB money and he will cover half the field, half the time. I know everyone is thrilled with Revis's return, I'm not one of those people. Not at his price. And I think the guarantee over how many years is very optimistic and really taking a bet on him staying healthy. Yeah someone was going to pay it, I don't think it had to be us. Cro got a hefty sum too, though obviously far less than Revis. And now there are actually rumors about franchise QB's possibly hitting the market and we're out of the running before it even started. No one has 25% of the cap. The cap is 141 mil. No one counts over 35 mil per. You ou want to improve the team, you need players good players. Money make money. Big money. Who cares anyway, we're still comfortably under the cap. Exactly. The argument against paying Revis would make more sense if there was some other player the jets missed out on by signing Revis. Only the jets can be critized in successive years for being too cheap and then spending too much.

Harris's deal wasn't ideal, I agree, but what did you think Revis was going to get paid? I haven't even seen details for Cro's contract, so I can't say much about it. And I don't think they spent too much, if that's what you got out of my post you missed my point

And I missed who the three good to very good players are

Just as a point of reference, Brandon Browner's, Perrish Cox's, and Chris Culliver's combined salaries next year are less than Cromartie's (let alone Revis's). I'd rather have Julius Thomas at $9M than Revis at $16M.

I'm confused where that Ravens Insider is getting 8.5 GTD. The bonus is GTD (2.5) plus first year (1), so that's 3.5. When former Chargers safety Marcus Gilbert agreed to terms with the Jets on a free agent contract last week, the deal was widely reported to be for four years and $22 million, with $10 million guaranteed. But, as with pretty much every NFL contract, a closer inspection reveals something quite different: Gilchrist's deal has nothing fully guaranteed except for one year and $3.5 million. To be sure: If Gilchrist were to remain with the Jets for the four-year life of the contract, he would indeed earn $22 million. But the way the deal is structured, the Jets can opt out after the 2015 season while doling out nothing more than $3.5 to $5 million. Gilchrist is due to earn $1 million this season in fully guaranteed base pay, plus a signing bonus of $2.5 million that gets pro-rated over the next four years in terms of how it counts against the cap. He also stands to earn up to $1.5 million in per-game roster bonuses. Next year, Gilchrist's base pay jumps to $5 million, but it is guaranteed for injury only and doesn't become fully guaranteed until the third day of the 2016 league year. Gilchrist is then scheduled to make $6 million in base pay in both 2017 and '18, though neither of those figures is guaranteed. Which means that on the off-chance Gilchrist stinks out the joint this season, the Jets can walk away after this year and owe him nothing beyond the maximum of $5 million they will have given him. They can similarly get out of the deal after 2016 (after having paid him no more than $10 million) or 2017 ($16 million) with no additional costs, should they choose to do so.

Gonna be a lot of guys on the field with a lot to prove in 2015 for a pay day next year.

Possibly a 4yr. deal paying out $7M this year and worth up to $35M with incentives is just crazy in my opinion.

I understand what you're saying, but just because you paid the going rate in an inflated (seller's) market doesn't mean you didn't overpay. I really doubt he could've gotten more anywhere else. Those reports were most likely made up by his agent. We'll never know though.

And I missed who the three good to very good players are your point is well taken however, from what i've read the oline wasn't as bad as it seemed. they would've looked a lot better had the qb not hold onto the ball too long. brady gets rid of it in less than 2 seconds. i hate to think how long genot held it for. but i also think that they can get some pretty good players, and not just depth, in rounds 3-7. wasn't fabini a 3rd rounder? what about ryan young? and moore was a low pick drafted as a defensive player.

Believe me, this move stung them, don't care what they try to say.
