Essentially, he's Alan Faneca. He couldn't sniff Fanecas jock. Faneca was much more athletic than Scherff ever will be. I would hate that pick probably more than other player that has been mocked to us. ESSENTIALLY, he's Alan Faneca. As in a perrenial pro-bowler at his position and a strong presence in the locker room. A cornerstone of the OL for the next decade. An heir to Brick and Mangold. Forget Faneca, if I told you that you were getting Logan Mankins for the next 10-12 years, you wouldn't take it? I'm not advocating taking Scherff over someone like Mariota, Cooper or Fowler. But if those guys are all off the board at #6...then yeah, I think if you can make a case for a kid like Dupree who, let's be honest, should really go in the 12-18 range...then I think you can make an argument for Scherff.

You said Scherff wasn't in Fanecas class athletically, which is ridiculous. And I stand by that quote. Lets just agree to disagree. Like I said, I like Scherff but when you're talking 6th overall pick with the other prospects coming out this year I'm giving that pick a big fuck no!

We (including me) were saying the same thing about Chance Warmack and Jonathon Cooper 2 years ago and neither is exactly John Hannah. I don't want a guard in the top 10. Why is he only a guard? He was a better LT in every form and fashion than Peat in college and Peat is a LT now and Scherff is solely a guard simply because he could be an insanely good guard? I don't buy it. Put him at LT, he's Andrew Whitworth (pretty damn good). Put him at either guard spot, he's a potential HOFer.

Just because he may be a better guard prospect, doesn't mean he's not a good LT prospect.

I remember a lot of people laughed at the Flats* because they didn't take David Baas instead. Mangold goes a helluva lot higher than 29th in a re-do of the '06 draft. Interior OL are becoming more and more valuable these days. And you're talking about a kid in Scherff who has the potential to be a pretty damn solid LT if that's where you choose to put him.

Brian Custer @bcustertv 2h2 hours ago After talking with Mike Maccagnan, I think the #jets will trade down if Mariota or Cooper doesn't fall to them.

That's probably the next best scenario, honestly.
Hope that either Mariota or Cooper fall to #6...or trade back into the 10-12 range with someone high on a kid like White, pick up an extra 2nd and maybe a 4th and take a guy like Girlie, Parker or Scherff.

I also think that's why they've been doing so much homework on the top 15 candidates. The Mac will actively offer up #6 for a good price to recoup picks. The dream scenario is trading back 5-6 spots and taking Parker, then trading up a few later for Ray. ...at this point, we might be spot for a Gurley trade.

I read about this over the weekend. I just can't imagine the Jags taking Cooper after both Robinson and Lee last year, plus Blackmon coming back - AND the contract they handed Thomas. I know there's some speculation about them moving on from Blackmon, but I can't see the FO being that cut and dry about it. If he turns up this summer motivated and sober, he'll play in JAX.

I agree with you. Even if Blackmon does not come back, they still have Hurns, Robinson and Lee who are all under age 24. That is a pretty good core of young receivers. The Cooper stuff is probably a smoekscreen -- I would be shocked if they pass on Williams or Fowler for another WR.
