Do you like the Jets selection of DT/DE Leonard Williams at #6?

Cooper was gone. Mariota was gone. I think most people thought LW would go to Jacksonville. Can't hate the pick. I don't like the idea of rotating players around, especially the 6th overall pick... it comes down to him being a great pick but how do you get all of these guys on the field? Someone isn't going to get snaps. Does this make us better? It definitely makes our bench better. But I'm not sure who we would have gotten at that point that could make as big an impact either. I liked Gurley there, I was ok with White there, after that... nothing really stands out to me. Gurley is a guy that people are worried about with toughness and durability, especially with his running style. White is a gamble for sure. He tried to sell himself with his mouth more than his play on the field this offseason I think. Too much talking. Leonard Williams is hands downs the pick vs those guys. High upside, consistent production, looks great on film, has the measureables...
We might not be very good on offense but I really don't see how anyone can play their offense against us either. We're gonna be in some games this year... the ugly kind of games. Bring it. I like that kind of football.

A bit of a binary response on the pole. I'm still nonplussed by it.
I want to see how the next couple of rounds play out before I fully commit (though I did vote 'yes').

It's not like I don't get the reason for the pick, but justifying it come September gets a lot more difficult. Honestly, if Coples wasn't on the team, this wouldn't even be a conversation. But with him, and what he could do if played at the appropriate position of DT/DE (which sans-rex, we might actually get to see) it makes this such an obtuse selection.

Yep. Had time to let it settle & dude was top talent in the draft. You take that & run. Everybody thinks this means the end of Mo soon, I doubt it. I see more of, end of Snacks, which I'm perfectly fine with now. Snacks money can go to Mo.

Its impossible to argue with getting the best player in the draft, but it didn't fill our biggest needs.

Although we need a good Rb I would never spend a 6 pick for one especially coming of ACL in a Rb rich draft. Bolster our strength which is D fine with me keep the bleeding to a minimum, go Wr in 2 continue to build the O we have to be patient in finding the Qb. This Williams seems like a character too, hopefully he will help wake the stadium the fuck up.

If they come out of the 2nd and even 3rd rounds with a WR and an OT, I wonder if people's perspectives change? Cause right now they are in a spot to get one or the other at the top of round 2.

This is the way good organizations work. When picking in the top half of the first round, you pick the BPA. Do it every year and never reach for picks in the the top half of the draft. Many, many evaluators had LW as the the best non QB in the draft, some had him ranked higher than Winston and Mariota. He is the closest thing to a sure thing in this draft. If the Jets didn't pick him, I'd be worried.
Work him into the rotation and we'll see how O's can handle a fresh Shel, Mo, and LW in the 4th quarter. Also, on 3d on long, the Jets can morph into a 4-3 with LW, Q, Mo, and Shel on the line. It was an exciting pick, the kid has a higher ceiling than Shel and Mo. And, oh yeah, he doesn't even turn 21 until August.

I disliked the pick last night and this morning, but now that my hangover is wearing off and I have analyzed the pick more, it's growing on me for the following reasons: 1) I did not watch any tape on Williams until this morning. Here is a look: draftbreakdown.com/video/leonard-williams-vs-nebraska-2014/Williams is an absolute MONSTER. As much as I like Wilkerson and Richardson, Willliams is on another level than the sons of anarchy. He looks completely unblockable in the Nebraska game. People had been describing William's ceiling as Wilkerson, but I think that is selling Williams short. 2) These negotiations between Mo and the team may be going a lot worse than any of us anticipate. Williams provides the Jets leverage in their negotiations with the former. 3) In the long term, it may make sense to hold off on trading Mo right away. Give Williams a season to have a better sense of what kind of player he is going to be now that the team has had him in the building for a while. If the Jets then decide that Williams and Richardson are better players than Mo, you franchise Mo and trade him. 4) OTOH, the Jets really need to explore trading Coples right away for a mid round pick. Coples is not an OLB and I can't see him playing much over the other DL.

NEVER thought he was gonna be there at 6. He was never even a consideration in my mind. So hell yeah.
