Sure, assigning "grades" to a draft when not a single player has played a down yet is kinda pointless....but what's your opinion of the Jets Draft this year? I dont see why we took Williams...we could have passed on him and drafted a punter or a a tight end like Kyle Brady.

The ESPN NFL crew just went through head to head match ups with every teams 2015 draft and unanimously voted the Jets as the winners of this draft. Easily.

Sporting News Vinnie Iyer Jets Grade: A “What a great first draft for Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles. They went for arguably the best overall prospect in Williams, and added even more offensive pop in Smith. Williams, Mauldin and Simon all have the skill set to thrive in Bowles’ 3-4.”
Washington Post Mark Maske Jets Grade: A “The Jets made sensible moves throughout. They had good fortune when DE Leonard Williams, probably the best defensive player in the draft and perhaps the top overall player, fell to them at No. 6. They got WR Devin Smith early in the second round. He should step right in and help. The Jets traded down in the third round and ended up with solid LB Lorenzo Mauldin. A badly needed prospective quarterback of the future arrived in the fourth round with the selection of Bryce Petty.”
NFL.com Lance Zierlein Jets Grade: A “I really thought the Jets did a fantastic job of not only filing needs, but taking best available when they were there. It just happened to match up. Overall I thought they did a really fantastic job. Mike Maccagnan - his first year as general manager - really knocked it out of the ballpark.”
ESPN Insider Mel Kiper Jets Grade: A- "The new leadership in the Jets front office had a great draft. Forget about need, when you get the best overall player in the draft (at least on my board) at No. 6 overall, you've done really well on value. I just don't think it's possible to have too many good defensive linemen, so I wouldn't exactly call it a ‘glut’ to have Williams in there with Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson."
Bleacher Report Ty Schalter, NFL National Lead Writer NFL GM Draft Report Cards Mike Maccagnan Grade: A “(Jarvis) Harrison is a desperately needed influx of youth on the offensive line. But buried deep in the middle there? Bryce Petty, one of the best-of-the-rest quarterbacks who some were talking about as potential late climber. Instead, the Jets maneuvered into place to get him near the top of the fourth round."
MMQB Peter King GMs of the Weekend Mike Maccagnan, New York Jets: "It’s likely that Leonard Williams was the number one pick on more draft boards in the league than any other individual player. The Jets surely believed he’d be gone when they picked at six, and of all the positions on the field, a penetrating defensive tackle with ability to flex out to end in some packages (or play 3-4 end, period) is what the Jets needed least. But Maccagnan did the right thing. Had there been a franchise player at some other position of great need, I wouldn’t have blamed Maccagnan for deviating from the best-player-available script. But there wasn’t one. So now the Jets have three first-round 3-4 ends 25 or younger with Pro Bowl potential: Williams, Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson. And they have a premier run-stuffer for first down in Damon Harrison.”

The GM and HC are on the same page and that page isn't in the book of shitastic moves? WTF is going on here in Jetland?

I gave it a B+ because I don't like Petty, strictly because of the offense he played in. The Art Briles spread is a further simplified version of Offense for Dumbies. I'm just not a fan of someone learning the basics of quarterbacking at the NFL level. It's like showing up for Calc II having never taken Algebra. You aren't giving Petty enough credit. Yes, the Offense didn't prepare him for the pros... but the kid has size, athletic ability, a strong arm, and all the intangibles... as a 4th rounder. I will bet that Gailey loves what he has to work with in Petty.

One thing is for sure. The Jets have returned to the Mangini days of character being important. Even if none of these guys make it, they've done things the right way and are deserving of the opportunity.

Damn good draft, and I love the Zac Stacy pickup. Not going to get ahead of myself though (because this is the Jets, after all), so I'll give it a cautiously optimistic B. A wee bit of hedge fun, ehh? Dash it; I'm bold enough to place a jaunty + next to that B. maybe not
