It's common practice for new GM's to keep the bulk of the previous scouting department around until after their first draft. Mac already brought in his Top 2 guys in Hogan and Heimerdinger, now it's time for him to round out the rest of his scouting department. Wouldn't he want his own guys scouting for the draft though? A little confused why he'd keep them around so long if he didn't want them. Because the replacements were under contract elsewhere? And may have been sent out scouting different players than Mac want them to scout for the Jets? And if they weren't scouting for another team would really be late to start scouting in February

The draft process and scouting for 2016 has already begun.

Glatt was part of the interview process of all the candidates including Idzik and apparently scared off some of them with irrelevant obscure questions that sounded like they were designed to hear himself talk and sound like he knew something about football Might have been a detriment but if we can guess that he was two years ago why can't we assume that he was influential when we approve of the process? Then again for the first year almost all universally approved of Idzik His influence in selecting Idzik was clearly detrimental given that Idzik had one of the shortest GM runs in NFL history (at least). Given his failure with that instance it's safe to assume he was at least demoted if not left out of the process entirely the second time around. It would be surprising that he's still employed by the Jets if it weren't for Woody's history of reluctance to fire people - unless he has a completely non-football responsibility now, like PR or something

We have no clue how much influence he had in either hire. As for Woodys history, other than Rex he's had no problem firing people.

A little confused why he'd keep them around so long if he didn't want them. that's what I don't get Because if you fire all your scouts right before the draft (relatively speaking), you're not gonna have any help or outside input. Not to mention, they could take their knowledge to someone else. So, they stick around until after the draft and you fire them. Think of it as black monday, but for scouts.

It did come out that, as Vinny's Neck said, he scared people off due to his football nincompoopery. He had woody's ear. I've seen interviews w/ him during pre-season games where he's shelling the benefits of PSLs and he sounds like a complete incompentent. I want him gone too.

No one has any proof that he scared anyone off during the Idzik hire. That's all speculation. and no one knows if he liked Mac and if he did how influential he was in his hire, which at this point is something we all like. And none one of this has anything to do with trying to sell expensive PSLs to a fanbases during a deep recession to a losing team.

While ideally the GM would want his own guys doing the scouting it would be a TON of catch up work if they are trying to make up for an entire NFL regular season's worth of scouting. If Mac completely cleared house it would have been an impossible task, especially because other teams will not let their scouts go so late in the process either. So he wouldn't have likely had a shot at the scouts he did want to recruit into the fold.

Personally, I hate to see anyone lose a job. That being said, I don't think these guys were fired just to be fired, the 2014 draft class got them fired.

it seems like strange timing but then again, as other posters have said, he needed to keep the current staff in place if only to reap whatever benefits they had regarding their scouting reports. well, that's the way it goes in the bigs. go luck to all of them.

Can't remember the last time there was an overhaul this massive (FO and CS). Don't know how much Woody had a hand in things in the past or not, but maybe he deserves some credit for letting Mac pull all shots he thinks necessary. We just had losers who had no idea how to spot actual football talent, so they were happy to lean on these bozo salesman who somehow managed to keep themselves out of the firing line for so long. Not anymore! Good riddance you phony shit heads!

That might be true today but it wasn't true pre-Mac. Glatt was very involved in the GM search that resulted in hiring Idzik and he has Woody's ear. Thankfully,it appears that Woody has finally decided let football people run the team. They hired a group to help with the Idzik hiring. But Glat was heavily involved? Maybe Glatt was in Woddys ear pushing for Mac. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/14/glat-could-be-a-factor-in-jets-struggles-to-fill-g-m-job/Casserle and Wolf ran the show this time around.
