What would it be?
ESPN did this segment for the Colts the other day. I thought it could be an interesting discussion -- besides there isn't much going on between now and the start of training camp next week.
There are a few obvious options to choose from:
- Gastineau Roughing the Passer penalty against Cle in 86 Divisional Playoffs - Doug Brien missed FG against Pitt in 04 Divisional Round (Either one) - AJ Duhe pick 6 in 82 AFCCG against Mia in the Mud Bowl - Ike Taylor strip sack of Sanchez leading to scoop and score in 10 AFCCG in Pitt - Muffed kick return against Denver in 3rd Quarter of 98 Championship
Or would you pick something less obvious? Any thoughts?

I would go with a less obvious choice from the 2010 game in Pitt.
Opening series of the game. Steelers have a3rd and 7 and Roethlisberger throws incomplete pass - I think it was to Emmanuel Sanders. Looks like we force a 3 and out, but a questionable flag is thrown for illegal contact on Cro. Gives the Steelers a 1st down. They would go on a 9 minute TD drive. Our defense was gassed and we had to play from behind all game.
I would have loved our chances had we gotten the ball back after forcing a 3 and out. Could have changed the whole complexion of the game.

None of the above. The Marino fake spike!
Started the late season spiral that resulted in young, popular first year head coach Pete Carroll (who now possesses NCAA and NFL rings) getting fired. Which then ushered in the horrible nightmare known as Rich Kotite!

Fake spike.
Mo Lewis hit on Bledsoe.
How can anyone not want the buttfumble play removed from our resumé?

Fake spike. Mo Lewis hit on Bledsoe. How can anyone not want the buttfumble play removed from our resumé? Buttfumble was an embarrassment. On national TV no less. But if I am changing one play its going to be a play that increases our chances ot going to the Super Bowl, which is why I am thnking more about the Championship Games. One other play that comes to mind for me is a regular season play from 82. We were playing the Phins at the Orange Bowl and we had a 19-17 lead. Uwe Von Schamann kicks a 49 yard FG as time expires and teh Phins win 20-19. If he misses that kick, we win the game and the Division. We would have hosted that Championship game instead of Miami and we would have had a fair shot on a good field. NO mud bowl. I would have liked our chances to get to the Bowl.

Brady takes the Mo Lewis hit. /thread Good one. Assume you are suggesting that Brady takes the hit instead of Bledsoe. I like that one. Like it a lot. Opens up the Division for us and maybe some of those wild card years between 04 & 10 would have been Divisional titles with home playoff games. Like this one a lot.

not a play but if I could change one thing, I'd bitchslap Parcells into promising Peyton anything and everything to get him to enter the draft after his Junior year. If, indeed, it was Parcells' lack of commitment that influenced Manning to return for his senior year, that was the most critical 'play' in Jets history, bar none.
As for a real play, of course Lewis hitting Bledsoe is the biggest one.
There are probably a dozen plays in the PIT AFCCG where any one of them changes the outcome so hard to pick one.

1998 leading 10 - 0 in the 3rd quarter at Denver, a flurry of turnovers, 6 total dooms the Jets to a 23 - 10 loss, Curtis Martin turns over the ball, along with Bires, and others. Win that game, and go to the Super Bowl with a loaded team, and Vinny T playing the best ball of his life. It still haunts me, and is the closest I've ever come to destroying items in my house.

Win that game, and go to the Super Bowl with a loaded team, and Vinny T playing the best ball of his life. It still haunts me, and is the closest I've ever come to destroying items in my house. I think you may be getting two plays mixed up. The Martin fumble came in the first quarter, on our second possession when the game was scoreless. So many fumbles in that game it is hard to keep the memory straight. We lost two fumbles int eh first half, both in Broncos territory: The Martin fumble in Q1 and Keith Byars in Q2. Two more fumbles in the 2nd half -- one on the windblown muffed kick return after Denver cut our lead to 10-7. And another one by Alex Van Dyke as we were approaching the red zone down 10 in the 4th quarter. Add in two picks Vinny threw in the 4th quarter and it all adds up to a major clusterfuck of a game that was right there for the taking. We hold Elway to 13-34 on the day and still can't find a way to win the damn game because we are -6 in TO margin. I love the Jets, but sometimes I hate them at the same time. That was one of those times.
