Not sure how I feel about this. We've got all these young developmental guys who he'd keep off the roster, he's already 33, it would definitely be a one year type deal. Obviously Mac is waiting to see what he sees in them thru camp. I guess he'd be a better replacement for Colon depending on what he will take for pay. I like everyone was shocked Philly let him go and expected to see him snapped up. How much can he realistically expect to get? I guess his best spot is for the SB contender that needs shoring up on the Oline like the Jets did with Faneca.

Brick and Mangold have been keeping the ship afloat but they aint getting any younger.

Awesome! because as I said in my thread our OGs were shit today. There was like 6+ would be sacks that came from pressure up the middle. Also two holding calls.

Macc, Bowles and co are likely seeing the same thing -- hence the call to Mathis. Still think its a long shot though. Someone with more cap space is bound to lose a lineman in camp and get closer to Mathis asking price. Maybe we can use some $$$ saved on Sheldon's suspension to bring in Mathis.

We're allowed to do that? I mean it's not like we're the Patriots or anything.

Hopefully we'll be using any spare money on Wilk at this point...in 2014 Mathis had a $5mil base salary with a $1mil signing bonus. Not the most expensive but significant

We're allowed to do that? I mean it's not like we're the Patriots or anything. Yes, read this yesterday on overthecap.com. Assuming this is correct, we get credit for his $310K salary once the season starts and next year we get credit of $335K for the signing bonus. But not enough to make a significant difference. overthecap.com/sheldon-richardson-suspended/"Jets star defensive end Sheldon Richardson has been suspended for four games due to a violation of the leagues substances abuse policy. Richardson will lose $310,353 in salary and forfeit another $334,823 in bonus money. That is a major financial loss for a player scheduled to earn just under $1.32 million for the season. Richardson will also lose the guarantee protection in his current contract.
The way that these suspensions work is that Richardson will be allowed to participate in training camp and the preseason and his suspension will go into effect following final cutdowns. At that point the Jets will see Richardson’s cap number reduce by $310,353. They will receive a full credit the following year for the forfeited signing bonus."

Nothing like costing yourself $645K to take the family for a spin in the Bentley.

Nothing like costing yourself $645K to take the family for a spin in the Bentley. Also cost him the trust of the his teammates, the fans, the coaching staff and GM. Which may ultimately cost him more than the $645K. He will need to be squeaky clean from now on.

Does not sound like we are in the mix, but with these things, you never know.
