The "old Jets" would have either: 1. Called timeout 2. Not seen Marshall and run a draw play to the RB for 2 yards 3. Gotten so excited and thrown the ball over his head into the 3rd row of the stands. Good hussle by the DT who saw the mistake. Almost felt bad for him. Yup. Poor dude.

The core good teams win year in year out for the most part and there aren't many of the usual suspects around this year. The Jets and Pats pretty much played the same teams and they took care of business. The Jets have been flying by the seat of there pants with Fitz and are a very average team, not D, as a whole. The Jets are benefitting from a year of parody in the league as are the good teams. Point being the good teams win no matter how the league is performing. Do you thing the Panthers are undefeated because they are so great or because of the poor level of competition. I'm glad tix didn't go in the garbage this year, but, I am waiting for that 1 ticket that matters.` agree with the whole core teams bit. but imo these jets have the makings of one of those types of teams. they're winning because they are making plays and executing, at least for the past few weeks. you just have to look at the penalty totals. they had one penalty. good things happen. as for the flying by the seat of their pants, sometimes they need to learn how to win. fitz gives them the on field leadership at the qb spot that they've been lacking since favre. yes he's limited, but they play a heck of a lot better with fitz than genot. It reminds me of the Junior football team I coached two seasons ago. We had a ton of talent. The kid we wanted to play QB was big and could throw the ball a country mile, but he did not understand the plays, couldn't figure out the footwork, and was totally unsure of himself in the huddle. So, we went with a kid who was short (really short), with a weak arm, but knew the play book and was not shy about telling his teammates what they were supposed to do on a particular play. The only passes he could throw were hitches, bubble screens, flares, drags, and quick slants -- we had to run a halfback pass to throw the ball deep. The kid went undefeated twice beating the perennial powerhouse with the "city" kids. If I remember right he threw 5 TD passes in those two games and probably had about 400 yards passing on passes that traveled a total of maybe 75 yards in the air. That was the season that solidified for me that being a leader and knowing the playbook were by far the two most important qualities in a QB.

And whoever is coaching the Titans next year is going to have a lot of young talented players. My money is on Doug Marrone.

I've had some thoughts on the players: How bad of a TE is Cumberland in that he gets no snaps in favor of Kellen Davis .... who might be a great guy and a hard worker, but pretty much blows? Cumberland is brutal, but Gailey simply has no use for the TE in his offense. Davis should never, ever be targeted. Only bad things seem to happen when he is.Also, high round draft picks Millner and McDougle can't move up the depth chart ahead of guys like Williams and Walls. Sad. Dee and Dex, it seems, haven't earned Bowles' complete trust yet. Remember, they're "Rex guys." Williams looks like an uncovered gem and Walls is doing a nice job on specials. We all thought Kerley was great but whatever he is doing in practice certainly isn't enough to get him meaningful snaps in a game. PErhaps he refuses to block? Not sure what it is, but ti seems he is not a "Bowles guy". Kerley does nothing spectacularly. He isn't overly tall a la Marshall. He isn't overly fast a la Smith. He doesn't run routes as good as Decker, and his hands are worse. He offers nothing on punt returns. I used to love Kerley, but he doesn't really have a role anymore in the Bowles era. Wouldn't surprise me if he's dumped or traded for nothing in the offseason.Has anyone noticed the drop-off in D play since Coples was cut?.... yeah, me neither. Bowles is doing an excellent job interchanging personnel. To fill Coples' rush spot, he's used Mauldin, Catapano, and even had Davis playing there some on Sunday. How many snaps is Shel getting at LB? I know the staff wants to get Williams in the game, but Shel was a difference maker last season and I rarely see him make any kind of impact plays. Seems he gets his LB snaps when the D is in an all-out blitz. Sometimes, Richardson will even come on a delayed blitz. It's pretty cool to see.Pryor certainly is starting to look like the lynchpin of the D. SS like him do not grow on trees. It's nice to see the staff using him in ways the makes the entire D better. It's like having an extra LB out there, but unlike the other LBs on the Jets, he can run. Pryor has been the most improved player this season, bar none. It's like night and day. Sort of reminds me when Wilkerson finally came on for the Jets. We all were like, "Who's this fucking guy?"Is there a team with a slower LB corps than the Jets? I break out in cold sweats when I think of any of them trying to cover a RB on a pass pattern. I'd run 5 wheels a game against them. We've been saying this for years. Pace and Harris are old and Davis gets caught flat-footed way too often. Paging Myles Jack...
