I dont know how many times I have to say it or people have to see it. FItz does not have a cannon but there is zero wrong with his arm strength he can make every throw. Hes not chad pennington like people make him out to be.
During the bye week, Metro polled six members of the Jets offense to get their take on Fitzpatrick. They were promised anonymity so that they could speak freely and openly.
“[Fitzpatrick] commands [the offense] so well,” one player told Metro. “In the huddle, the language comes out clean. He understands the playbook, where we’re supposed to be. There’s no hesitation.”
Another player said that “he’s like having a second coordinator out there on practice [field] or [in] meetings or a game. It’s really natural to him.”
When asked if Smith had the same command of the offense last year and this year in practices and games, the player would only say that “Fitz has the best command of any quarterback I’ve ever played with in this league. It’s phenomenal.”
Fitzpatrick’s numbers are slightly better than Smith’s during the first quarter of the season when compared to the same sample size from last year. But the 3-1 mark is better than at any point during Smith’s two years running things.
Fitzpatrick has been criticized for showing a lack of downfield arm strength, something that Smith has no shortage of. With wide receivers such as Brandon Marshall and rookie wide receiver Devin Smith — both home run threats — Smith could potentially be an asset in helping stretch the field.
“Geno, I’ve played with him now a couple of years,” one offensive skill position player said during the bye week. “And Geno has this huge arm, but he hasn’t learned to use it. Ryan has a stronger arm than people think but his placement is good. And this offense doesn’t ask him to throw it 60 yards down field. Just get it over the top of the secondary, over the safeties when they’re playing deep. He can do that. He’s done it a few times this season.
“I don’t get everyone saying he has a weak arm, he doesn’t. His ball placement, man it’s impressive. We haven’t always had that. Some quarterbacks around here in the past, they get you the ball but it’s not in stride. You’re reaching up, going back and it throws you off your route. That can be the difference in a first down or a third down, that little second to stop and get a ball. [Ryan] doesn’t have that issue. He’s placing the ball right there.”
More like the company line, rather than a ringing endorsement of arm strength. And I've got eyes and watch a lot of games other than the Jets. Fitz may be regarded by some as having an "adequate arm", but when you compare him to the top QB's, his arm strength is not even close and his accuracy is average at best. I like the guy and think he is doing great things with the limited talents he possesses, but please do not fool yourself. There is a reason he went to Harvard, was undrafted, and has played for nearly every team in the AFC. His brain is big, but his physical skills are limited.
Right see post below you. Watched alot that about sums it up. You never had the makings of a Varsity player lol

Not sure I get your point? Air yards compares how many yards are from the WRs YAC to the pass itself. A QB whose WRs are not really good YAC guys has a higher percentage. It shows nothing as to arm strength or how far the ball has traveled?
You can believe anything you want about Fitz's arm strength, I am not trying to convince you otherwise because you have your own clear mindset on this issue. But I've gotta say, you are seeing things that no NFL coaches or talent evaluators see when it comes to Fitz's physical skillset. If his arm strength is so under-appreciated why couldn't he throw a hail mary at the end of the last pats game with the ball on the NE 49 and 14 seconds left with no timeouts. A qb who could reach the endzone had, potentially, 2 to 3 shots at a hail mary. Instead he threw a 12 yard pass over the middle, rushed to the line to spike the ball and Marshall got flagged for a false start, causing the last second to be runoff the clock. If your QB can throw it 60 yards in the air (like most NFL QBs), you take a shot at the endzone there.
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. tough break on smith but he really wasn't getting the job done too much and coud probably use some seasoning. he's got the talent just not getting it done on the field. in his defence it would have been nice if fitz could overthrow the coverage and let smith run to the ball.
I'll take Fitz over Geno too, but that doesn't discount that he is what he is. PS, it's not just the distance it's the speed with which the throw arrives. His throws look a lot slower, and probably what the disconnect is between him and Devin.
On the plus side - we don't have a deep threat QB.
Looks pretty certain Fitz will be here next season. And it seems Fitz would be better served with an awesome slot receiver than a guy who is going to run 50yd downfield....

So He didnt overthrow marshall 6o yards in the air this year. And he didnt throw it 60 yards in that video i posted. Im tired of arguing about it. You who supported pennington are trying to make fitz out to be pennington. That is a weak arm qb. Matt ryan is a weak arm QB. Fitz is a touch passer its a big difference.
Its the same asinine comparison as another poster saying arm strength plays into batted down passes at the line of scrimmage when it only applies to two things. A QBs height and or how long they hold onto the ball. Fitz is short has a very quick release. Im done arguing over it everyone bitched and moaned when he was made starter some jumped on the wagon now, and others never will. Personally i dont give a shit. It will be funny this year when he breaks that sporadic , huge arm gunslinger Vinny Testaverdes td record this year and goes down in franchise history

You do know that was Fitz in a Bills uniform to TO right? That was the point lol. How is that the opposite of a fitz throw if it is Fitz
Have not seen him make a single throw like that this year. The fact that I didn't recognize him speaks for itself I'd say
You have been watching with Biased eyes then. His arm strength is the biggest fucking urban myth in the NfL. I dont know if you record games But go watch the throws to decker down the middle ogf the field on the Last series against the giants. Or just rewatch any game and watch the diff in velocity on each and every pass. He takes zip off the ball alot to much in my opinion but thats what he feels the receivers hes throwing to are comfortable with something all qbs do with their receivers . He lets it go with Decker more then anyone else even marshall except on the come back passes he throws to marshall for the first when hes in trouble. But he seems to throw hard to decker almost always. Give fitz a burner he would have no problem hitting him in stride. None he can make all the throws. Smith would have some huge grabs these last 3 if this didn't happen. He had just turned a corner. Its not a conspiracy you dont think they were going up and down the field with fitz and smith in practice trying to get the kid ready. Of course they were.

It's a real shame about Smith, but I haven't given up on him yet. He started flashing in recent weeks and in the last game Fitz completely missed Smith on what should have been an easy touchdown. Unlike Stephen HIll, at least we see Smith get open.

And thusfar, you been serving as the "expert" on Fitz's suddenly dynamic arm strength. Wake up man, Joe Goodberry is as credible an expert on the subject as you. And his analysis even used numbers.
Check out that arm strength on the TD pass to Decker at 24 seconds in. Fitz throws it so hard it almost spiralled.
