Never understood why Kerley wasn't better at returning kicks. He has the same skillset as an Edelman or Santana Moss. Guess he lacks the vision.

In the 3 days since the season ended, Bowles has said and done two things that have been music to my ears. "This team needs to get faster" And now the realisation that ST was a disaster, although there was not a ton to work with for April. You're correct about the special teams. Even Westy said it was devoid of talent. But regardless, April had to go. The special teams were inept and new blood is needed. I like that Bowles is not worried about hurting anyone's feeling. Has Rex ever fired any of his coaches? I doubt it. Glad to see Bowles too immediate action.

We all wish... He just doesn't want to do it anymore. He hates what they've done with the rules and he just doesn't have interest. Wish he fuckin would. At least oversee the shit or something. I'd ask Westy to help in the search for a new ST coach. However, with all of the firings that have happened, I get the feeling Bowles has someone in mind for the job.

Rex normally only hires coaches he already knows, and if a coach isn't getting it done, he hires another coach to help the bad coach.

So what does that say about the Jets ?

I think Kerley had a punt return for a TD like two years ago Other than that...you probably have to go back to Brad Smith. Just looked it up. 2012 -- Mcknight had a KR touchdown against Houston and Kerley a PR against Buff. 3 straight seasons with 0 return TDs. Meanwhile there were at least 3 ST TDs scored against the Jets this year (PHI, BUF, NYG). Any others? The BUF TD was the difference in the outcome and the Eagles won by 7.

Just the 3, but thats enough. Indirectly they gave up another with the Quigley shank on Sunday -- giving Buff the ball at our 25, same impact as a turnover. On the season, we were 29th in opponent net punting average (41.6 yards) and 31st in our own net average (36.2 yards). Meaning we gave up over 5 yards of field position on average every time we exchanged punts -- only Arizona was worse. Add in the fact that we were 31st in touchback percentage, and we were losing yards of field position all season long due to specials. NOt sure who we will being in -- seeing a lot of buzz for Keith Armstrong from Atlanta online -- but whoever it is should be a welcome change. Edit -- ST gave up 4 TDs. Forgot about the blocked punt for a TD against Washington.

I looked into Armstrong because of the buzz but can't figure out what his contract status is. Bowles wanted him last year but the Falcons wouldn't let him talk to the Jets. With the quick axing of April, one would assume that Bowles has somebody in mind already so Armstrong could be the guy.

Another possible candidate could be Dave Fipp -- ST Coach for Philly. Asst ST Coach in Miami when Bowles was there. Could be available with the HC change in Philly.

You guys need to put down the Koolaid.
Yea he should be fired but this is a day late and a dollar short. We kept running the same people out there all year on STs. And yes, we could have goten beter production from guys of the street. Anthing is better than what we has.
We also need to bring in a time management consultant and one of those football research guys like Belidick has. Too many times this year we failed to make proper adjustments. We need someone with the birdseye view on gamedays to let Bowles know the reality of what is going on.

So what does that say about the Jets ? It says that he underachieved with a more talented team than the Jets and knows that to beat and inaccurate QB with a weak arm you play a zone with one deep man and wait for the picks to happen.

The worst part was that Quigley's first two punts in the game were really good....but I just knew that third one out of the end zone was going to be a disaster.

I don't believe Buffalo was more talented on paper than the Jets. Not at all.
