Move? You get a break on rent for the month? Yeah, it's a shame that one of the only possible solutions to this is the disruption of moving because some asshole decides to start demo'ing his own apartment who is now going to get evicted and probably won't be here much longer anyway. i mean seriously, how can you think you can do that without a permit? In NYC? Not only are we very settled in here but what really is painful is that we designed, had fabricated and istalled our kitchen including buying our own appliances, in order to have something nicer than the crap you get with the typical apartment. And managed to do it without calling in the fire department, ConEd, the Building Dept, and get a $5,000 fine for the LL. Yeah I guess we could ask for a rent break but the LL is not responsible. He offered to reimburse everyone for the hotplates - upon surrendering them to him, with receipt. LOL!!!!! This gives you an idea of what we are working with.

that's truly fucked up. How can they not find gas leak? It really is. Everyone is saying the same thing, how is this possible? To just give up and throw their hands in the air and undertake this yuuuuuuge renovation? They were here 3 times looking for it, that I know of. I dunno could there be more going on? This is really costing them a ton of money

You might be on to something there, but they why wouldn't they just install it properly then with the money they're throwing away on this project (despite using Polish illegal aliens to do the work?)

Laymans guess? The cost of a bunch of Polish illegal aliens supervised by one guy who knows how to wire a stove... versus the cost of a licensed/certified/approved Plumber and his crew to retro-fit an old building with gas lines...on top of applying for and receiving the appropriate permits? No brainer. You, M'am, are being cheap-fvcked to death.

Gas lines probably buried behind walls. Old gas line Could be leaking almost anywhere. Behind walls and in floors, would be very hard to find.
