It's now obvious that the jets never asked Brick to take a pay cut... they probably just called him to ask him to make decision sooner rather than later. I think you're right...they already said the convo was only a minute long and referenced needing to free up some cap space. The person reporting it may have assumed that was a conversation about a paycut when it may well have been a..."hey if you are still planning on retiring, can you make the decision sooner than later so we can plan moving forward? Thanks"

Incoming; den is trading clady to us. Brick will be the domino this sends everything in motion. Kaep to den. Clady to us. Fitz resigned etc. That's my prediction Word.

A great Jet. We should put him in the Ring of Honor this year. That said, his skills were greatly diminished and I wouldnt be surprised if we end up with an upgrade at the position.
The OL needed to be addressed a couple of years ago. We need to draft linemen in the first round that are ready to play. It has only gotten harder to develop OL.

Why couldn't Brick make this decision in January BEFORE free agency opened? Did he even tell the Jets he was considering retirement, so that they could be more active in free agency?
I have a little resentment that he waited until now, but I fully understand his decision and respect it. His timing did the Jets no favors whatsoever.

Farewell Brick. Thank you for freeing up the cap space for us to do what we need. And people need to chill. He has been steadily declining. You were a good Jet. We love you. (Except Repulsion who thinks you should be sent to the moon without a space suit.) You are right he was declining but we have literally NOTHING there behind him. It brings to mind that game at oakland when we didnt have nick mangold...I cant remember what year that was but it was a pretty discouraging sight. We should have been looking for a long term replacement for both of these guys right then. We've all been saying it for years bro. Maybe now we will finally address the O-Line.

What a circus. Toss a 10-year, all-time Jets favorite warrior into the garbage, to pay a journeyman QB a gazillion dollars.
No wonder no one wants to to play for Woody.

Wow. Didn't see it coming. He has declined the past few years, but still better than some LT in the NFL.
Timing really hurts. Didn't give us an opportunity to replace him other than the draft.
I'm pretty stunned. Last but not least, great career, Brick.

All the best Brick. Hello T Decker in round 1.
Maybe should've read between the lines when Brick said he felt betrayed by the NFL after that concussion movie.
Guess his heart and head just aren't in it anymore
The endless rebuild continues

Cimini is the worst...didn't he initially say it was a 'stunner'?
