Bowles said Hack was very "forthright and forthcoming" when asked what went wrong those last 2 years at PSU...you can take that fwiw....

Hey long time no speak.
As a PSU alum/fan, I was leery of Hack after the abomination I witnessed the last 2 years. But I'm starting to get some wood for this kid. First of all, he just turned 21 years old. (That seems to be a theme in Mccagnan's drafting. Draft 21 year olds. Not 23 year olds). So Hack has a lot of time to develop. And let's be real. Some other team was going to grab him sooner than later. I no longer think it was a reach at pick #51. Secondly, James Franklin is a terrible coach for a guy like Hackenberg. In fact, I think he's a terrible coach, period. Why he still has a job is beyond me. I'm leaning more towards the optimistic side for this kid. A perfect scenario would be Fitz for 2 years and then let Hackenberg take over the reigns.

Does Gruden ever knock anyone in his camp? Gruden ripped his footwork, without really referencing the coaching change that may have influenced it. Not a Gruden fan, but he was semi-tough with this kid. My god. 1,000,000+ posts? Have I been gone THAT long?

Yeah I think Hackenberg if they fix his footwork and some mechanical adjustments he could be a good starter in this league. Not sure if I would of invested a 2nd round pick...maybe a 3rd...but maybe someone was ready to pull the trigger on him in the late 2nd. But VTN said it best it's the o line that concerns me moving forward and Mac should of addressed it in day 2. Yeah I don't think there was any chance in hell he would have been there for the Jets in the 3rd. They would have had to trade up into the top 10 of the 3rd to get him.

Fitz had a great year last year and still ended up as the mediocre QB that he always was... just with career best numbers. I'm sure the coaching staff was not impressed with him shitting the bed in the most important game of his life. I do think we should bring him back to mentor the young QBs & give them time to develop. But the only way I'd want to give him a 2 year deal is if there is very little or no cap hit if we cut him after the first year.

103 sacks makes you cringe. Good practice, if he is shell shocked he's no good anyways and if not well this will allow for the best to come out of him.

If Hackenberg is ready to rock and roll after 1 year of carrying a clipboard, then I'm all in. Yeah, ideally, if they re-sign Fitz and they can do so with a limited cap hit in the 2nd year, that's great, but I'm not convinced that Fitz will re-sign for 1 year only. Unless the Jets come up closer to his number.

To put it in perspective, Ken O'Brien had a lot of practice too. from 1985 to 1987, Kenny O was sacked 152 times. Makes that 103 sound like nothing.

I think they should start outthe practices for him with the first string oline against the second string dline, and give him some confidence that way

It is so cool to watch this video post draft. I remember seeing it before the draft and he was just another (unattainable) talented QB being interviewed on TV by Gruden. Now he's OUR talented QB!!!! Still hard to believe.
