Yes, where the starter and starter-in-waiting almost always dislike each other and/or resent management for putting them on the same team... See Montana and Young, Favre and Rodgers, Osweiler and Manning, etc.... shit Osweiler was so pissed off that he did not even consider re-signing with his SB champion team. Those are 3 examples out of the many positive relationships. Osweiler was in his 3rd year and had starts under his belt when he started bitching. You don't think he was a bit more humble his rookie year?...when he was a nobody trying to learn an NFL game? Farve was an egomaniac who wanted to hold onto the starting job until he croaked....Fitz would come here knowing his time is limited until one of the young kids step up... I think you're comparing apples and oranges here. No QB room is built equally... Well, I certainly never expected Fitz to ask for $16 mil let alone hold out for it

Statistically he just cracked into the top 50% of QBs yet $16 mil puts him in the bottom third of all starting QBs, tied with Andy Dalton. I don't think he should get it, but why the fuck shouldn't he ask for it?

Though I don't blame him for setting his sights high.

But to expect him to sign for 7 mil or so is chump change in today's NFL for a starting qb, even if he is just a jag.

It maybe chump change, but here's the difference.......Most starting caliber QB's have competition for their services once they become free agents. The Jets are biddin against themselves so why should they pay the goin rate for a career under achiever who nobody else wants? There's a reason he is still a FA, good starting QB's would never be on the open market this long so he's not worth the goin rate even in the eyes of QB needy teams.

Also, what if Fitz gets beaten out by one of the youngins during the season? Big Mac would not be able to stomach Fitz's overpriced salary as a backup. That's what he's trying to avoid.

That and reps, these young guys are gonna need the reps this offseason, it's crucial for their development.

When Chase Daniels (who's started 0 games) lands a bigger/faster contract than Fitz... that tells all you need to know.

Sorry, Fitz. Geno went 8-8 throwing to no-one as a raw rookie unexpectedly thrown into the starting role due to Sanchez's Snoopy Bowl injury. With a strong running game, massively improved receivers, and strong D, Geno can drive the bus. He'll drive it erratically all over the road and crash into a variety of static objects, but he will still drive it. Either take deal on the table, Fitz, or I vote to move ahead with Geno, Petty and Hack. Agreed, accept that I don't even want fitz for 8 million or 8 Irish pounds. I'd rather go with Geno and finally see what the knucklehead can do with a real O. I know what fitz can do and it ain't good enough. At least it will be interesting (bang or bust) and possibly exciting with geno..

There's also that. We had the butt fumble, Mayb geno will throw the penis interception. Jet things would LOVE that. His favorite play in the history or the NFL.

boy, there are just too many ways to look at the whole situation. imo there is a lot to be said for tea chemistry but both marshall and decker have been able to adapt to numerous embarrassment so it's not like they're going to stop catching balls if genot or whoever starts. there are also a bunch of new faces on offense and the qb is going to have to learn what they can do. in a perfect world i guess i'd be inclined to want fitz to start but there are also reasons to stay with what they've got. the only downside, assuming genot starts, is that he's a free agent after this season and it would be one heck of an embarrassment if he manages to post really good numbers.

So Fitz claims today "I'm playin football next year" oh is that fuckin right Fitz, and who for exactly?
The team you have pissed around for 3 months? No competition for your services yet you think you can have a leisurely round of golf the day before OTA's claiming you're playing football next year?
The arrogance of this man has no limits, I hope Macc slams the door in his face if Geno or hack have a strong offeseaon and advise Fitz he WON'T be playing football next year.
