why in gods name did we sign Jarvis for that (or any) kind of money? They guy is a rotational dime-a-dozen lineman who will be available on his couch in november if we ever needed him. I can't believe we would give away a 4th rnd comp pick to have him for 2.3 I agree that that one was a head scratcher. Only thing I can think of is they saw him as insurance in case Sheldon had a longer suspension and/or they would have dealt Mo, but it seems to me they could have gotten a guy off the street later in the offseason or off the waiver wire later this month that could give them the same thing as Jenkins. The other thing that I did not mention from the Spotrac article is that if a player is released before week 10, he does not count as a qualifying FA. Maybe they keep him around for depth for the first half of the season and let him go mid-year to hopefully get that 4th for Harrison.

For me, the 3 negatives were:
1) Jalin Marshall - Like everyone else, I've read the practice reports and hoped to see something special. Outside of the kickooff return last week, he's been disappointing. Too many drops for an UDFA to have.
2) Jace Amaro - Again, read thee practice reports and had high hopes he'd emerge as a pass catching threat after his injury, but like Marshall, the practice plays are not translating to the games. Too many drops when the lights have been on. The only thing saving him is that we have NO ONE emerging at that position at this point. They should just make Enunwa a TE and call it a day.
3) Marcus Williams - Led the team in INTs last year. Maybe things have gotten to his head a bit and he's become too comfortable and not playing with the intensity of an UDFA. We know he can do it, he just needs to show that our #3 CB is here and ready to go.
The positives:
1) Petty - I went on record at the start of camp that I wouldn't be surprised if Petty emerged as someone to be considered as a QB of the future. I couldn't see how this regime would draft him knowing he was a project coming from the system in Baylor and give up on him after a year. They knew he had all of the physical traits and was a smart kid. He needed time to learn and get reps. He's showing that it is paying off. I will be PISSED if the front office lets him go.
2) Bilal Powell - With all of the injuries, he's getting a lot of work. He looks faster this year and is making his decisions quicker. He's not a #2 RB, he's become a 1B.
3) Rookies - Lee, Jenkins, Burris, Peake, Anderson all made plays. Yes, they made some mistakes and missed a few, but it's been a long time since we've seen a class of rookies show so much this early in their careers.

Good Bilal Powell looked quick hitting the hole the one play he played as the defense hogged all of the playing time because they can never get off of the field. Depth at WR. Love Charon Peake if he can stay healthy with those toothpick legs. Seems like a great 7th round value pick. Petty cannot be cut or exposed to the PS, someone will grab him immediately. Something is telling me inside that he will be really good (if not great) someday. This team is not winning anything anyway, he should start week 1 in my opinion and lets see if he can progress. We can go 3-13 with him or 5-11 with Fitz at this point, so who cares? We will draft 1 or 2 more QB's next draft anyway. I never want to see #7 take another snap as a Jet QB in Preseason or regular season. Send him to Dallas for a bag of balls or something. The guy will never mature here and will never improve. I saw the same Geno last night that we have seen for years already - enough is enough. He reminds me of Brucie in The Longest Yard. The game mercifully ended(even for PS, it was one of the worst football exhibitions I think I have ever seen, mostly by the guys wearing green and white) Bad First team D hasn't stopped anything in 2 appearances in the PS, no pass rush at all and Swiss cheese run defense kept them on the field the entire first half. Were it not for a piss poor throw by McCoy, the first drive would have(should have) been a TD. Secondary looks horrifically bad. They got lit up by McCoy, a back up. LOL. Did they happen to notice who their first 8 opponents are? Not sure WTF is up with our defense to be honest. I do think that they read the idiotic press about how great they are and think all they have to do is show up and opponents will cower. Wrong. Offense looked sluggish. Marshall & Amaro dropping balls all over the place. Amaro is a waste. Sudfeld made some good plays but fumbled late in the game which imo negates any positives. Haven't we learned anything from being beaten to a pulp by NE year in and year out as to how important to an offense & QB it is to have a competent TE or 2? All in all it is shaping up to be a typical Jets season of frustrating football and another NE Division Title and possible SB Championship. God you're annoying. Worst post I've seen on this board in a while. For all of you haters out there, this is preseason. It means NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING. The Jets are playing a VANILLA DEFENSE. Why the hell can none of you understand that? By Week One, this defense will be in top gear and we will EASILY make it to the playoffs and very likely the AFCCG. I have zero doubts whatsoever.

Maybe but the other team is playing vanilla too. So it comes down to how do our football players compare to their football players, without regard to scheme, play calling, etc. and at least so far, not so good. Certainly not the be all and end all - the sample sizes are really small - but to watch it and not be at least a little bit concerned is pretty short sighted, IMHO.

At this point I see no reason to put Jalin Marshall on the 53. He is taylor made for the PS, especially since you can place 10 guys there now. Assuming Enunwa bounces back from the concussion we should have 3 locks - B. Marshall, E. Decker, Q. Enunwa (although they may list him as a TE), and then probably two others in Peake and either Thompkins or Ross (I'd suggest Ross). They will need a placeholder to bring back Devin Smith from the PUP list early in the season, but I think they'll use that roster spot for an extra OLineman or CB for the first week(s) of the season while Smith is still out.
Let's also remember that teams are allowed to use up to 4 of their 10 PS spots on players who already have two seasons in the NFL. This will help some longer term "projects" or guys you're still not sure about stick to the team. I think Dakota Dozier is a good candidate if he doesn't make the 53.

I think it's funny when people resort to the no game planning excuse as if everyone's ability somehow then vastly improves. Having said that last year in preseason the defense couldn't tackle for crackers and it seemed to improve during the season. Who knows maybe Bowles is telling them not to get hurt

Of course it's Vanilla. Who can forget those secret Tebow packages? The problem is that Rex was too scared to utilize the Tebow package during real game-day situations. I have no doubt that Marty thought up some great plays with Tebow, but Tebow never got a chance to run them.
