The first thing I would do would be to become way more aggressive on defense, too much sitting back and waiting, and too much space given off the line to WRs. Bench Fitz, not the answer, nor at this point a competent game manager. Get Bowles to change his expression, not sure if he sneaked into the locker off the set of Westworld or not.

You take your lumps and take this season on the chin. This is what you signed up for when you are staring elite defences in the face and bring back a limited QB for 12 mill a year.
We also need a thumper RB like Karlos Williams, we are to quick to abandon the running game and put the game in Fitz's hands with Forte.

1) Bench Fits and move him down to #3 on the depth chart behind Geno and Petty. Tell Gailey he is not only paid to call the plays, he is also supposed to develop a QB and the Jets have 3 QB's on the roster who are far more talented than Fitz, so he needs to do his job to make them NFL QB's; 2) move Revis to FS now so we can get an idea if he can actually play the position -- perhaps he will do a better job of getting everyone in the secondary on the same page if he is making the coverage calls. This also makes Burris the #3 CB and gets him valuable playing time; 3) Put Sheldon Richardson on the trade market to see what we can get for him. Hopefully, either a first round pick, or some combination of a later round pick and player that makes sense. Dallas certainly would love a DE of his caliber and they don't shy away from guys with a poor personal conduct history. The guy has a world of talent, but a 2 cent head. He flashes but does not always do his job on the field because he wants to overperform. e.g. on a zone blitz when it was 3d and less than ten he ran 15 yards down the field in coverage when he was supposed to just "sit down" in the middle of the field 5 yards off the line of scrimmage (which by the way is where Jimmy Graham ran a drag and made a first down catch thrown by an under duress Russell Wilson). Plus, Sheldon pops off in the locker room. From what I can tell, he is a selfish player, a distraction and a malcontent. Addition by subtraction. As Lou Holtz said, you get a motivated locker room by removing the unmotivated guys; 4) Fire or demote Kacy Rodgers at the Bye. He is a poor play caller and clearly does not do a very good job getting the players to understand their responsibilities. Promote Pepper Johnson as interim DC to audition for the job in 2017; 5) Put Decker on IR. The Jets need him next season, not this season. Plus it get Peake and Robinson valuable developmental playing time; 6) send out an amber alert for Lorenzo Mauldin. I think Todd Bowles is in a tough situation. He has the ridiculous expectation that this team is supposed to compete for a playoff spot when the schedule and the talent says otherwise. And he can't be seen as panicking. A HC is supposed to be a steady hand. So, if I was in his shoes, I would make these changes incrementally. Call Indianapolis... make substantial offer for Andrew Luck. lol - Sheldon Richardson, Revis, and 1 and 2 round picks... Honestly though there are so many things that puzzle the shit out of me... We sign Forte but do not try to use him in passing game. We have DBs (same as last season) falling down or not following there assignment or at least looking like they blew an assignment. and there are others but they have been discussed many times. The quoted post pretty much sums it up for me.... someone has to be made an example of for playing like shit, so see ya Kacy Rogers. Especially since defense is what we were supposed to be "elite" at....

Play the kids.
We're not making the playoffs this season so let's get the rookies and sophomore players on the field for as much as possible. Revis, Harris, Forte, Fitzpatrick are not part of the playoffs, so tell them that they're making way for the young players on the roster. Maccagnan was hired as a former scout to be the Jets' GM. Let him evaluate the roster with a view to jettisoning those players who won't make it and keeping those that he thinks will make it.
Go full tank mode and see if we can get a top five pick in the NFL draft (Browns will have the no. 1 pick sown up). Play Fitz against Pittsburgh then use the bye week to prepare one of Smith or Petty to start for the remainder of the season.
Yeah, it'll be brutal, but the hole the Jets dug for themselves in the first month of the season can't be overcome. Already losing tiebreakers against the Bengals and Chiefs for a wildcard spot, and the Jets have slipped behind Bozo the Clown's Bills in the division.
Maccagnan's evaluation should also extend to the coaching staff, including Bowles. Maccagnan was hired after the team hired Bowles to be the head coach, so he hasn't had an opportunity to select his own head coach.

We needed a brilliant evaluator of talent to pick the best players possible. What we got was a spotty, bordering on bad talent evaluator. He fuckin sucks.

You can not evaluate a coaching staff or GM after 1.25 seasons. Stability is the key. Unless the HC or GM is a total clown, you have to trust your hiring process and give them 5 years before you re-evaluate. In this case, very respected football minds worked with the Jets to hire MacBowles. Trust the process. If you keep firing HC's and GM's you become the Browns.

If this board is a representative sample, then the Jets unfortunately have the worst fanbase in all of professional sports. They refuse to find optimism in anything and find every reason to bitch. If Bowles doesn't start turning in 12+ win seasons overnight, he automatically sucks. If Macc isn't drafting the next Brady or JJ Watt, he's a clown. It's very much a "what have you done for me lately" fanbase.

Lorenzo Mauldin had 6 snaps this past game. Just sayin I fear he is a speed rush OLB without difference making speed who does not know how to play OLB very well. Sometimes, guys eventually figure it out though. Remember how unimpressive Bryan Thomas was in his first 4 years. The light went on in year 5 and for 7 seasons after that he was a very good player, who could be counted on week in and week out to do his job well. Some guys just take longer to develop than others. The Bengals come to mind as team that does a great job developing their players even if it takes a few years.
