According to the New York Daily News, there are "rumblings on One Jets Drive" that coach Todd Bowles is reluctant to commit to Bryce Petty at quarterback over "fear of a player revolt."
Playing the young player when the alternative is a turnover-prone journeyman would seem like the best course of action during a lost season, but Bowles is reportedly "concerned his team will check out" because Ryan Fitzpatrick still gives the Jets their best chance to win. The Daily News' Manish Mehta says Petty is still far behind Fitzpatrick on the practice field, and playing Petty over a healthy Fitz would cost Bowles "credibility" in the locker room. The Jets are currently on bye. Bowles should announce the starter next Monday.

The Credibility issue is that this came from Mehtard. While the comment makes sense, it's just the kind of thing he'd make up and attribute to an anonymous source.

As I said in a previous thread, if Bowles is afraid of losing the team, then he is already a weak coach.

I read Mehta's article yesterday. Typical shit stirring. He refers to "rumblings" and anonymous "eye witnesses in practice." Who are these eye witnesses -- could be Mehta himself and his fellow NYDN reporters. He takes a couple of Macc quotes and weaves them together to draw his own conclusion. He probably tweeted the article about a dozen times yesterday and singlehandedly created this storyline that may or may not be true. But he got people to click on his links and he has himself in teh news, so he did his job.
From the dipshit's article:

My best guess it's likely a media concoction to make headlines. I don't have any specific insight into whether or not this is a dysfunctional team but they are a bunch of overpaid under achievers. I'm no great fan of Bowles and his mannequin act on the sidelines. The guy stands there like an emotionless turd as the Jets get their brains beat out on a weekly basis. However, I do know that as a coach I'd do my best to fine, bench and otherwise humiliate and blackball aby player who challenged my authority. Ultimately shipping them out to an even more screwed up team than the Jets.....if there is one.

it seems to me, since woody has been owner the've been controlling the press by making sure the players and coaches say all the right things. on occassion, a player will seak out. on this team it's usually marshall or richardson who give the media their outrageous sound bite. but even here both of these players don't go around throwing their fellow players or coaches under the bus.
now this thing about the locker room being a problem may have some credibility. what team wouldn't be happy being 3-7 and basically out of the playoff hunt? as for the whole petty starting over fitz, at this pont, it makes no difference because the playoffs are out of reach. i can see some players wanting to win if only to improve their contracts for next season but objectively it makes no real difference. this team has only itself to blame. they could easily have been 5-5 or 6-4 at this point.

Mehta owns us. We are JETS fans. He's the rust spot on our Vehicle to Nirvana. Can't do anything but watch, as it tries to ruin our fun.

Judges agree that "Shit Stain" is also a cogent analogy for "it".
