Agreed. I had In n Out in California and I didn't see what the big deal was. All the chains mentioned are good, although I am a Fudruckers fan as well. Totally agree. In n Out with their stupid yuppie secret menu is the most overrated burger on the planet. Double double animal style my ass. I think that 5 Guys is the best, although with expansion, some of their outlets are lacking. Best burgers are the ones that I make at home. Garlic and onion powder. Kosher salt and pepper. Worcestershire sauce incorporated in the meat. Fried in bacon fat. Slap on some cheddar cheese. Grilled onions. Sliced pickles. A little mayo. A little mustard. A little steak sauce. Damn..now I want one! This man knows

I think all of the burger places like Shake Shack, Five Guys & Smash Burger are very overrated. We go to a little place over in West Hempstead once in a while called Burger Bite. Definitely the best burger place I've been to in a long time. All cooked to order so unless you csll ahead, you have to wait a little while. But it's always good and great fries too.
My favorite is the Titan Bite. Gourmet Onion Rings, Crispy Bacon, American Cheese, Lettuce, Special Sauce. Damn tasty.

Agree with others here... Shake Shack is the most overrated overprices burger.
Five Guys is an excellent burger and the cajun fries rock.
One of my favorite burgers is from Newark in the Ironbound district... Hamburgao. Fantastic.

Louis' Lunch in New Haven CT. _ Have had many burgers there during my time at Quinnipiac. They're great, but fuck them for not allowing ketchup.

I remember the Paramus Fudruckers. Good times. I loved the buttered bun. That was my go to location, I was so bummed when they closed down.

White Castle is everyone's dirty little secret. We all enjoy it but are ashamed to admit it.

Gourmet Onion Rings, Crispy Bacon, American Cheese, Lettuce, Special Sauce. Damn tasty. Combine these two and it's basically how I make my burgers. Take some ground sirloin and combine it with minced red onion, salt, pepper, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and egg yolks. Put it on a toasted brioche bun with bacon, a thin slice of tomato, butter lettuce, tangy ketchup, habenero or jalapeno aioli. I also like to a few fries on my burger or fried onions.

Adding egg yolks to a good burger makes it meatloaf.

A well-prepared classic Whopper with Cheese will always have a warm spot in my heart.
White Castle, perfection in cheap one-bite form.
Five Guys is great, but the grease-lake it comes with is a bit slick.
Shake Shack is good, but not great. About Wendy's-level.
Elevation Burger is horrible, stupid starbucks logo and barely Burger King level quality.
The Counter is spectacular (and yes, you have one in New York too).
Smashburger, meh. And bad fries tbqh.
Kraze Burger (i.e. Korean Burgers!) is oddly good.
Best burgers tbh have all been at high-end restaurants, not "burger joints".
Seems a modern trend if the Pimento Cheese + Some-Fancy-Beef burger, had one last time I was in Whisky Heaven, and it was near on as good as the whisky.

The Counter is spectacular (and yes, you have one in New York too). The Counter in Los Angeles, CA is definitely spectacular. They opened one in Clifton, NJ and managed to completely mess that up... super dry and tasteless burgers. Went one time a few months after it opened and it was out of business like 6 months later. Such a shame.
