He played 11 snaps in 60 plays prior to taking over at RG for Winters the last 2 Drives. 9 of those 11 were next to Shell. Before last nights game he played 22 snaps the entire season on offense. Almost half of his entire production this entire season came protecting Shell last night in three quarters with his 9 snaps. Protecting him in short yardage running situations...but you have a prexisting notion of Shell. Don't let decent game from him change that.

but you have a prexisting notion of Shell. Actually I don't and gave a write up on him after the draft, I'm sure you read it. He has his issues and I didn't hate the pick, I hated how we acquired it which is a big difference. I was only responding to what you said earlier and I'll quote it. Dozier has played as the jumbo TE multiple times this year. I don't think it was implemented strictly to help Shell, nor do I recall them going with it more than a handful of times, but I could be wrong. Watching that play unfold live i was struck immediately by the wonder of a young Jet QB going through progression so well followed by wondering how often our qbs have had the time to do so...

Now you'll try and back track to count his plays at RG is what you were talking about, even though those 15 plays at RG wouldn't have anything to do with the conversation that was being had. I was wrong, Dozier played a FEW more plays lined up next to Shell than I thought he did. He sure as hell didn't play one out of every 3 snaps though.

You weren't off by a "FEW", you were off by a mile as I pointed out. We are in week 15 and according to you 9 of his snaps came this week in only three quarters protecting Shell, before that he played 22 snaps all season as a positional TE, extra blocker. I'm glad you finally admitted you were wrong.....no need to go passive aggressive about it.

Even Paradis, who hasnt thought much of Petty since he played in Waco on Saturdays has noted his improvement in this area. Dungy and Flutie seemed to be very pleasantly surprised by him too. its amazing how moments just change a game. If that strip sack doesnt happen on our second drive yesterday and we go up ten or fourteen on them early, I think you see such a different game play out. I know Bryce has held onto the ball at times, but that guy came in untouched. Sucks. on the brightside, after that hit, i didnt see Petty get 'Clemons feet', he stood in the pocket and threw the ball downfield multiple times with lineman approaching. Even on that brutal double sack that knocked the wind out of him he hit Anderson.

Mostly it's the beat writers especially Joe coporos @turnonthejets Has a hard on for petty becaus he was a 4th round pick but people forget that year he was 3rd best QB after Marriott and Winston and some draft experts had him going late 1st rd early 2nd

Simon has been showing up all season despite limited snaps until the other night. Very optimistic on this player

Hey, a positive thread! I like this shit!
Shell, Dozier, Winters and Wes Johnson are all in different places developmentally but all are going in the right direction IMO. My question about Winters is that he's a FA. Do we see him back in 2017?
On Defense I'd be fine with McClendon and Simon splitting the reps at NT next year with Leo Williams and Wilkerson at DE. The real question (still) is how to jumpstart production from the LB corps.? I like Darron Lee and Jordon Jenkins. They look like the longterm foundation of the second-level on D. I'd take a serious run at Chandler Jones this offseason if he hits FA. I think he'd be the real disruptor and X-factor our defense could use. That's a nightmare on offense schematically to block two guys like Wilkerson and Leo Williams on opposite sides while trying to account for Chandler Jones. Mauldin has underachieved and has durability issues. We can't count on him at the crucial OLB spot. It's a blatant need as he was expected to take over for Calvin Pace.
My big offseason moves on D would be pursuing Chandler Jones and a solid FA CB, trading Richardson, not bringing back David Harris, and continuing to work the lower portion of the roster by retaining guys like Bishop, Carter, etc.

I'm fine with all that if one of these dumb fuck HC/GM combos would stop ignoring what every fan for the last 6 years can see is missing and keeps asking for........DAMN PASS RUSHERS!!!! How many fuckin times do we need to say it? O-line and pass rushers, what can they not understand about it? Maybe the secondary can't hold up because we expect 300lbs DT's to be our only pass rush. How about we draft a damn RB too now and again? Every SOB regime all they do is draft QB's, ILB's and DB's. Throw money at D Ware, R Mathis anybody who can rush the damn QB who becomes available in FA.

I'd even be on board with Melvin Ingram and, to a lesser extent, Nick Perry. We can't stay cheap on the edge.
