Not sure this applies in the case of McCarron. He's backing up a fairly established starter, it's not surprising he hasn't won the starting job. Was Garrapolo supposed to beat out Cum Guzzlin' Fag? Does that mean he doesn't have a chance of being an established starter if he goes elsewhere? _ You could have made the same argument about Cassel and Flynn. Both backed up established starters, looked good in glimpses, but when they got the chance to start, they failed. Maybe McCarron does buck the trend, but if you are asking me if I am willing to part with a day 2 pick for a guy with three NFL starts, who has one year left on his contract, I am not willing to do it. I guess I'm biased because I've always loved the player. I thought Flynn always sucked in college and in the pros and I never really liked Cassel. _

if I had to choose between the 2 I'd opt for Mccarron, Solely based on the eyeball test. That being said, I wouldnt trade anything more then a 4th round pick for him. I think he could be a decent starting qb. But I'm not sold on him being a franchise qb that could lead us to the promiseland. Shit, the qb playing in front of him can't even win a playoff game.
Personally, I'd prefer to roll with petty and hack and sign a guy like Hoyer to a 1 year deal.
We need to build the team up this year via the draft, and sign a few young free agents without going for the big splash signing. Hopefully we can save cap that can rollover to next year. and then we should go get our franchise qb...
And With the 1st pick of the 2018 NFL draft, the nyj select, Sam darnold qb usc.

I liked Glennon coming out, but not Macarron at all.
Glennon will demand too much so forget him.
I want to the Jets to go with Petty and Hack and who knows?... Maybe one of em takes the bull by the horns.

Why bother with a vet QB? To try and go from 4 wins to 8? Let petty and hack play. If you can think of a solid reason for a vet QB, then at least let it be someone who can teach petty/hack a thing or two. Otherwise we're just jerking our puds with 120 grit sandpaper.

Glennon and A.J. another sure fire way to relegate this franchise to another 5 years of 6-10, 8-8, 9-7 seasons with nothing to show for it in the end.

Well that's another obvious point Bryce Petty has been hurt a lot and he's hurt right now which leaves us only with Hackenberg healthy as a quarterback right now? I think the fact that McCarron has been on a playoff not albiet not the starter, I'm sure he could bring something to the table as either a starter or a backup. We at least need somebody else to be on the team to compete for the position

I just need the jets to put someone under center who can lose 14 games.

We obviously need more than two quarterbacks in the room and going into training camp. I'd give him Sheldon and take McCarran and a 3rd? This way we have three young quarterbacks with upside and 3/3's 3 with upside? Hackensuck has no upside. Worst QB in the history of football. Cut his worthless ass today. McCarran I'd be Ok with, but not Hackensuck.

Stand pat with Petty and Hackenberg, if one gets injured there will be a number of journeymen QB's available which can be signed who are available to lose games for the Jets. Lets face it, Petty or Hack has to prove they are NFL starters or they are gone. The only way to prove they either can cut it or need to be cut is to play them. Picking up some bum/journey man QB only depletes cap money and won't win the team any games. It's going to be a rough 2017 - 2018 season and there are no magic QB's out there which will change this, unless Brady becomes available.

If Hackenberg starts and leads the jets to 14 losses, and the Jets get a top 2 pick in the draft, he may do more to insure the long term success of the franchise than any other player in their history.
