Add that bust to Coples, Wilson, Sheldon and Milliner 2 DLinemen and 3 DBs right there. No wonder the Jets have to keep using high picks on DLine (Williams) and DBs (Adams, Maybe) in recent years. This team has completely blown at Drafting.

I know it's easy to ride Macc and Bowles but the Rex Ryan tenure utterly destroyed this organisation and set them back ten years at least.

"Second round" should be banned from Jets forums until Maye makes a probowl.

This shouldn't be a surprise based on what happened in draft. Hopefully they cut him in camp. Like Devin Smith, just a horrible draft pick from the start.

Id like to see him cut or traded, but I get a sinking feeling they keep him, so that Bowles can run his vaunted three safety sets.
I think they keep four safeties - Adams, Mayes, Miles and either Gilchrist or Pryor. Based on experience and brains, I prefer Gilchrist, assuming hes totally healthy. But I get the feeling he wont be and Pryor stays another year. In fact, I just read that Mac is saying Gilchrist probably starts camp on the PUP list.

I'll take heat for saying this but a Maccagnan / Ryan team might not have been horrible. I don't fault Rex for having a GM that was stupid enough to allow him to make draft picks like Taj Boyd from Clemson and Sanchez's WR buddy that one year. If you keep Rex solely focused on Defense and keep him away from both the O and the Draft Room it may work out. I think we'll see him as a DC again at some point assuming he doesn't stick with a TV role too long.

There are lots of dammits actually! Just look at the second half of Round 1 that year. I've circled in red the guys who are NOT having their 5th year options exercised (or have otherwise been released by their teams). Not only did the drafting of Calvin Pryor result in the Jets having to come back just 4 years later and use the #6 pick on a Safety, but look at how many other DBs taken after him are sticking with their teams. We know the Jets have been hurting for both S and CB. So many guys (Clinton-Dix, Verett, Denard, Bucannon, Roby, etc.) are proving to have been decent if not excellent selections. Sheezus Christmas!!! How in the hell did the Jets fuck this up so bad. Taking just about any of those 5 guys would have been better. NOTE that Deone Bucannon is hybrid guy, kinda like Jabrill Peppers....played S in college, used interchangeably in Arizona as a LB. Just 5 of the 17 guys below aren't being retained by their teams....and Bridgewater is due to injury.

But that's like saying a C- student is smarter than a D student.

I remember Rex commenting that he preferred Pryor to Haha Clinton Dix because the former was a bigger hitter.

Seemed like such a great kid too. The idea of him now in NE is just absurd to me.
