And, with the 22nd pick in the 1986 NFL Draft, the Jets selected OL, Mike Haight, Iowa. Pretty sure that Mike is the big guy in standing up in the corner.

And finally, back in 1966, the NY Jets selected DT Carl McAdams from Oklahoma with the 22nd pick Carl was a back-up defensive lineman with the 68 SBIII Champs.

Day 22With the 22nd pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, the NY Jets selected DE, Bryan Thomas, UAB Funnniest (or saddest) part about Thomas was his inability to put on weight. If memory served me, turns out he had such poor eating habits and didn't have money growing up to have even rudimentary dental hygiene so he was having trouble eating when he got to the Jets but was too embarrassed to tell them. Took a while for them to find out and address the issue. _

Mike Haight knows all about being a low 1st rounder. Expectations were high; too high, if you send Rich Kotite in as Oline coach(84? 86?)...
As paulie yoused to say: madonn!

Day 20We had the 20th pick in the draft as recently as 2016, but top billing on this day has got to go back way before that. All the way back to the 1965 AFL Draft. The Jets 3rd round pick in 1965 was number 20. And, with the 20th pick in the 1965 AFL Draft, the NY Jets selected Verlon Biggs, DE, Jackson State. Could not find any pics of him from college, so this one will have to do: Biggs played 6 seasons with the Jets before signing as a free agent with Washington in 1971. As compensation, the Jets received the Redskins 20th pick in the 1972 Draft. They selected Michigan Linebacker Michael Taylor, who played two seasons in the NFL, both with the Jets.

And the 20th overall pick in 2016, Ohio State LB Darron Lee Darron, help us win a Super Bowl someday and maybe you will get top billing in a future countdown.

And finally, in 1970, picking 20th, the Jets selected Florida DB Steve Tannen. Tannen played 5 seasons with the Jets. In 1972, he was 3rd in the NFL with 7 interceptions. The Jets attempted to trade him to the Raiders in 1976, but the trade was nullified when Tannen failed his physical in Oakland. Rather than return to the Jets, Tannen retired from football.

That was a terrble 1st round -- at least we got a player when most teams drafted busts. The problem is that we left Ed Reed on the board.

Day 19With the 19th pick in the 1964 AFL Draft, the NY Jets selected Gerry Philbin, DE, Buffalo. Philbin, #73 in the picture above, is next to Buffalo DL coach, Buddy Ryan. Buddy, of course, would reunite with Gerry a few years later as DL coach of the Jets. Verlon Biggs yesterday, Gerry Philbin today. Not a bad couple of days. Actually, when you look back at those 64 & 65 drafts -- Biggs, Philbin, Namath, Ralph Baker, Matt Snell -- thats when the Jets really began to assemble the championship team. The only other time that the Jets selected 19 was the year before, they selected Jackson State WR Willie Richardson with the 19th pick in 1963. Richardson was also drafted by and played for the Colts, catching 6 passes against the Jets in the Super Bowl several years later.
