Day 14With the 14th pick in the 1979 NFL Draft, the NY Jets selected Alabama DT, Marty Lyons. Hopefully this means that it is 14 days until Marty is recovered from his stroke and back calling games on the Jet radio network.

And, 8 years later, with the 15th pick in the 1992 NFL Draft, the Jets selected Johnny Mitchell, TE, Nebraska At least Mitchell made some contribution in his 4 seasons as a Jet, catching 158 passes, including 16 TDs. Faurot, on the other hand, was waived in October of his second season when he could not make the transition from college DE to OLB in the pros. He would be signed by the Chargers after his release -- he tore up his knee during his first practice and never played in SD. A 20-game NFL career for a 15th overall pick. Not good. I was at the game where he scored 3 of his 16 total TDs. vs Eagles. Jets still lost that game. Had a big lead in the game, too. With Leonard Marshall yelling "AIN'T NO SURPRISE!"

Day 13A lot of options for Day 13. 6 times in their history, the Jets have held the 13th pick in the NFL Draft, but only twice since 1973. The most recent was in 2013, and with the 13th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the NY Jets selected Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri.

The three remaining #13 picks played less than 2 combined seasons with the Jets/Titans, but did include a hall of famer.
In 1966, the Jets selected Michigan DE William Yearby, who played one season, 9 games as a Jet. Rutgers OT Alex Kroll was picked by the Titans in 1962 and played just one season.
And the Hall of Famer. In 1961, with the 13th pick, the Titans selected Herb Adderley, DB, Michigan State. He could have played for the Titans in their second season of existence, but instead he chose to sign with Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers, who selected him 12th overall in the 1961 NFL Draft.

Ellis and Vilma were good pics, Ellis never really lived up to number to #12 but was an anchor for a decade, Vilma was fine for Herms D, not so much for Mangini's

We also had the 12th pick in the AFL Draft in 1965. Picking Heisman Trophy winner John Huarte, QB, Notre Dame. Huarte would never play for the Jets. He was made expendable by the guy drafted a round ahead of him. A QB from Alabama who was taken #1 overall. The Jets traded Huarte to the Patriots later in the '65 season.
