And with the 41st pick in 1994, the Jets selected WR Ryan Yarborough, Wyoming. Antoher mega bust for a 2nd round WR. Turns out that Stephen Hill is not even our worst 2nd round WR ever. Hill was more productive in his two seasons as a Jet than Yarborough was in his 2 years, just 24 receptions and 272 yards for Yarborough before he would be waived and join the Ravens for two more unproductive seasons in Baltimore. Actually, by the time this countdown is done, Stephen Hill may not be one of the top 3 2nd round WR busts.

Day 41...With the 41st pick in the 1979 NFL Draft, the NY Jets selected Mark Gastineau, DE, East Central Oklahoma State For about 4 or 5 years, as dominant a defensive player as the Jets have ever had. I just want to kick his balls ONCE for the late hit on Kosar......

And, 5 years later, also with the 40th pick, the Jets selected another defensive back, Lester Lyles from the University of Virginia. (Couldn't find any pics of him with UVA)

Day 39...A trio of picks for the Jets at 39. Going chronologically, with the 39th pick in the 1984 draft, the NY Jets selected Glenn Dennison, TE, Miami. Another one of those classic 2nd round picks. 1 season, 16 receptions. Jace Amaro was more productive for the Jets.

Finally, with the 39th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Jets selected Marcus Maye, S, Florida. Not exactly a great legacy for Marcus to live up to.

The only other time that the Jets picked 38th was back in the 1966 AFL Draft. And with the 38th pick, the Jets selected Ben Hawkins WR, Arizona State. Hawkins was a pretty good WR, leading the league with over 1,200 receiving yards in 1967. Too bad he did that with the Eagles, who selected him in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft, also in '66.

Day 37...The most prolific day on the countdown. 7 picks at #37, the most of any slot on the countdown. And what did the Jets get out of those 7 picks. 1 player that had an impact. 2 other players that played a season or 2 (one still on the roster) and 4 guys that never played for the Jets. Or the Titans. First, top billing has to go to the one solid 37th pick. , With the 37th pick in the 1984 NFL Draft, the NY Jets chose Jim Sweeney, C, Pittsburgh.

The guy still on the roster (but on IR already). 2015 2nd round pick Devin Smith, Ohio State. The only other 37th pick to play for the Jets was 1988 2nd rounder, Terry Williams, DB, Bethune Cookman who played in 11 games for the Jets in 1988 & 89.

In 1975, the Jet selected Heisman Trophy runner up Anthony Davis, RB, USC. However, he accepted a more lucrative contract from the Southern California Sun of the World Football League. Only returning to the NFL after being selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (and his former coach at USC, John Mckay) in the expansion draft. He rushed for 304 yards for 3 teams in a 2 season NFL career.

The remaining two 37th picks were Bobby Ply, a DB from Baylor selected in 1962 by the Titans. The Titans traded him to the Dallas Texans shortly after the draft. He played AFL 6 seasons, mostly for the Texans/Chiefs franchise. The only other 37th pick came in 1967's combined AFL/NFL draft. The Jets selected Rich Sheron a tight end out of Washington State. Sheron had been a solid pass catching TE who played through several injuries in college and decided to pass on the pro game. Instead he became a dentist who practiced for over 45 years in the Vancouver, WA area.
There you have it. 7 picks at 37. Jim Sweeney, 2 guys who chose to play elsewhere, 1 guy who was traded, 1 who can't stay off of IR, 1 who started 11 games and a dentist. Not much of a return for 37 (aside from Sweeney).
